What would you do?

If it's an early FA it may:
1. Be a fixed sight model (not real practical unless you settle on one load only).
2. Have the replaceable forcing cone (no longer offered by FA IIRC).
3. Not have the replaceable firing pin (FAs noted for breaking firing pins).

Don't know if any of that makes a difference for you decision.

Something to consider.

Get the Freedom for your daughters sake :) it will be worth more than the other option 10 years from now. Also a .454 is better than the .50 you named unless you go on really big, like buff hunts regularly ! >454 is about the top of reality for a heavy handgun unless you hunt very big things often, get real.

The used gun market is saturated with field grade FA 83s in .454. I have found that FAs depreciate like everything else.

Funny , I have yet to see one under $1000 on Gunbroker. 10" ones in good clean shape start at $1400 . That is the national audience there !

Currently i do no hunting, not by choice but due to my combination of life choices. I live in chicagoland so no where to hunt except private land of which i own none that is legal to hunt on and illinois is archery and shotgun only any how. I will not live here forever and do plan to live in a more reasonable state (years from now) so anything i buy is for range use and load devolpment, oh and to make buddies question my sanity. Just a guy hopelessly addicted to big bore firearms and recoil looking for another unreasonable (for my situation) gun, gotta love it.

Sadly my better 7/8ths has laid down the law, regulated on my sorry butt and demanded a maximum of 1 gun per year. Both are not an option. I already load 454 casull so i would need little to nothing to get started. The 500 jrh i have nothing for, but if it isnt this year ill get it next year.

Nobody here will say anything. A BFR isn't that FB you could probably find a convenient stash spot or just tell her "I know you said one gun a year and I already bought a freedom arms so I got this BFR for you honey." I got two words for you that can better your odds: pink grips. If that doesn't work I got three words: baby blue grips.

Or he buys the FA now - it’s 2019, and the BFR/Ruger/whatever in January - that’s 2020. Just trying to think outside of the box without getting him in trouble. Hahahahaha!

Hey all,
Here i am in a dilema. A buddy of mine who has no interest in revolvers slipped in on an amazing deal that was supposed to be mine. A freedom arms model 83, must be an early one- serial number df 6xx. Its in great condition with a 10" barrel, he paid $700. Crazy cheap. He regularly runs low on money and said when he needs some funds he will sell it to me (i assume for what he paid). He is a carpenter and winter is coming so i expect in a couple months i'll be hearing from him. The dilema im in however is i have been saving and planning on buying a bfr in 500 jrh in january (when im allowed to buy a gun- once a year). So if you were me would you wait it out for the FA or just go ahead and order the bfr? I'm on the fence, always wanted a FA and know i wont find one that cheap again. It's a tough one.
If my money was that tight I wouldn't buy either one of them.

Dump her.

If he has the gun that you really want I would just wait for that one. Otherwise. buy the other one now but make sure that you have cash on hand when he is ready to sell. Kind of sounds to me that your friend searches-out these bargains and at the same time makes sure he has a buyer on hand. Maybe HE paid $500 for it? I could very well be wrong. At any rate, good luck with it and maybe he will turn out to be the very best friend ever and give it to you for Christmas.

Dump her.

I’d suggest announcing a similar limit on her discretionary purchases. Tell her that any jewelry, shoes beyond what is strictly necessary, and other non-necessities she buys for herself are subject to strict annual limits as well.

If she doesn’t spend much on herself, well, so much for that idea.

Yeah, she's frugal . we have 2 daughters under 3 years old and she's really just looking out for their future as well as our own. I might get away with a little but not a lot - she handles all the finances and I have more guns than she thinks I could ever need (40 +/-) so she is right.

It's his wife, Jack. Dumping her will cost him a lot more money than sticking with the set precedent... :D

Wow Obturation, did you get my post pulled?

I thought I took the high road, merely saying "skillset".

If you did then you better stay out of climbing forums. They are much rougher than this place.

(note to self; don't bother to effort another post to the closing of a hole)
