saw several 4506 for sale in my lgs from a police dept. non adjustable sights. can't recall if no dash or -1.didnt know much about them at the time. they were priced at $500.

If they are in good condition, that is a good price.

3rd Gen S&W autos are starting to creep upwards and aquire some collector cache.

I sold a very clean 4566 a couple years ago for $600 and bought my 645 last year for $750:

Locally, I see 4506's in mint condition with box and spare magazines being listed around a grand, so 7-800 would be a logical sales point.

The 4506 is a great gun, the only weak point being the grip module which also retains the mainspring. These were originally Xenoy plastic, and if they break will render the gun inoperable. Factory grips (and magazines) are expensive and hard to find, but there are hard rubber and wood replacement grips available in the aftermarket.

I'd expect to pay $600 for a 4506 or a 4506-1 LE trade in in the condition described. For LNIB I would expect to pay more.

Five years back, I picked up a 4506-1 LE trade in from the Mendotta IL Police. It was rough and dirty on the outside. It was in a local pawnshop and being overlooked by the plastic and tacticool crowd. I got it for $300. No box, one mag and a used LH Don Hume holster. I stole it. ;)

Three hours of cleaning and some work with a Scotchbrite pad and some CLP gave me a pristine 4506-1. With flash chromed hammer and trigger too. No MIM in this fine 45. :)

So if I came across a clean 4506--1 for $500, I'd be on it like a duck on a June bug. Good luck!

Oooooohhh...need pics! :)

The lack of MIM parts and solid metal gripframes are my main reason for seeking out 2nd Gen. S&W autos over the 3rd Gen. If I did find a nice 4506 I would probably set it up with a pair of the Hogue wood grips- I just don't trust the Xenoy.
