What is a good, portable, inexpensive, store bought or home made shooting table that can be easily carried and set up for shooting, target practice, sighting in scopes, etc?

A folding card table would be better than having nothing at all but I am guessing the light table wouldn't be a very steady platform from which to shoot.

shhoting bench

I've owned the San Angelo shooting bench for 3 years and it still does me right. Costs about $80-100. Collapses to a 5" thick table

I've got a set of "screw in the pipes" welded brackets I bought a while back - moving, and it turns out I'm not going to have room for a lot of stuff. $25 shipped? I can send a photo (if I find them - I'm cleaning the garage and trailer this afternoon and evening).

This table came from WALMART of all places. It is 18" by 26" on top and adjusts to 24/26/28" to suit you. I carry it and the white bucket with my bags and other gear. Sit on the bucket and shoot. Cost $15 and is available at Sam' Club as well. You could put sand bags on the legs if you wanted to.

The ground up here in the mountains is soft enough I can just wiggle it down and it's sturdy enough for me.

We have a folding picnic table our family uses when we eat at the shore. It's really quite strong and pretty sturdy. It seats 4 adults. I have used it for shooting before and it works very well. They cost around $50.

I'm currently using a table fairly similar (probly a little bit bigger, but not a whole lot) to Grandpa Shooter's. Got it for ~$10 at BiMart. With my new MTM "predator" rest (~$30), it's actually pretty good. Put it on level ground, and its plenty stable.Great for those of us who dont have our own property to shoot on :(, and have to travel, as its light and folds up.

Our portable shooting benches are Made here in the USA. We are USMC Vets and shooters so we try to build the best bench out there. The bench is currently being used by SOCOM, the US Army, and the USMC. our website is at http://www.doatactical.com just let me know if you have any questions by email or call.

Works well, has room for my other stuff...

I also use it for other things at other times. All for $50.

why not shoot prone of standing?
benches = bad habits

Mighty presumptuous of ya there. Not everyone wants to do things the hardest way possible. And not everyone is able to shoot standing, sitting, kneeling or laying down. A good bench makes the experience much more enjoyable.

There's another thread running about this same topic. http://thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=366785

@ Rondog, there are some who may not like bench shooting, but right now the USMC, US Army and SOCOM are using benches not to mention alot of the private security firms for range practice. You can develope bad habits as easy standing sitting or kneeling as you can sitting on a bench. Just a thought.

Hmm.. we have some pretty decent little tables at work, tech tables.. I'll have to look them up after lunch :)

Built it myself

Here's my shooting bench I built myself for under $30. I'd say it weighs about 20 lbs. It works great and is easily adjustable for any height so it could even be set up for kids to use.

It's made so the legs fold up and can slide right in the bed of the truck (or in the back seat of a car). The rear leg looks like I made a mistake in centering it but that's so it can be switched from side to side to allow for left/right hand shooters to allow maximum space.

If you have a pick up... I built a bench that slid in out of my truck bed, really just a couple of 2x4's with some plywood screwed to them. Made it just short of the trucks bed length. When I slide it out, one end stays on the tailgate, the other goes on a handy foldable saw horse I got from Home Depot, it has an adjustable hight feature... very handy. Here is a link to a tube video on building a portable bench.

For my birthday I received a very nice portable bench. This is nice because it's easier to move around (and get in the shade). The truck bench is much larger and is great if I take someone shooting and need more space to lay out guns and equipment. But most of the time I shoot alone and the portable is great for that.
