I can't speak for the others, but my Para Hawg is an outstanding pistol.

Great trigger, outstanding accuracy from so short a barrel and has not had a single failure of any kind.

This is the first time out with it, before adjusting the windage.

Rapid fire from 21'.

What about an Ed Brown

I think it's called the 'Bobtail'; a small 1911 with the corner of the butt cut off, which should avoid an 'outline' recognizable as a pistol when concealed. Ed Brown makes nice weapons but I've never held or shot the Bobtail.

I shot a Colt Defender (3" 1911) for a few years. It was dead-on accurate (better in my hands than my Gold Cup!) and fun as heck to shoot. The Defender proved fairly easy to carry, although the weight did sometimes become annoying. I had some problems with it, though.

1. cases dinging my head after ejecting, often drawing blood. I had 2 'smiths look at it, and neither could really figure out what the deal was. This was annoying.
2. FTF on occasion, which seemed to get to be more common as I put more rounds through the gun. Started at about 700 rounds, got too common for my comfort as I approached 1100 rounds.
3. It's not as easy to field strip (or, shall I say, reassemble!) than my 5" 1911s. This was annoying to me as I like to shoot what I carry every time I go to the range... And I found myself not wanting to shoot so I didn't have to clean.

I surmise 1 and 2 were related, but I am not an armorer so I have no real idea. I was told by Colt I needed a new recoil spring, and as I recall it was somewhere around $150 because it came as an entire assembly (no luck getting them to just sell/give me a spring).

Since it was a carry piece, and I wanted reliability as paramount, I sold it.

In retrospect, I really love shooting that weapon, and it's accuracy was phenomenal even compared to high dollar 1911's I have shot. I believe had I found a good smith, it could have been tuned properly and given me a lifetime of fun. But I got annoyed with it and dumped it in a weak moment :D

Folks have told me, anecdotally, that Defenders should run 3500+ rounds on their recoil springs... And some have had zero problems with theirs. I can say, if I had no problems with it, it would have been one of the finest firearms I've ever had the pleasure of owning. Something about that thing just made it deadly accurate and it was very enjoyable to shoot. So if you can find a good one...

Thank you but, guns at the 2000 dollar mark are... Well I'd rather buy four or five guns for that much.
The more i actually learn about 1911's the less i want one,(still want one not gonna lie) but i guess it'll have to weight till my latter years i guess. Their complicated; expensive; and even good brands have a 50/50 track record.

Damn you Glock for raising my expectations for reliability and versality and simplictiy, damn you. And what sucks is i really don't like Glock.

It ain't that bad fatts. I carry a Springfield Ultra Compact V10 that I bought used at the gun show for $499 over two years ago. I put new springs in it and it never hiccups on me. Love it.

Another vote for the Defender.
Reliable and extremely accurate for a short barrel (extremely accurate period at combat distance- less than 10yds).

Amen. The only thing holding me back on the EMP is whether I want my carry piece to be 9 or 45. Not wanting to start the caliber war, jus thaven't made the decision personally.

MRCPU...Thimk about it. Do you really feel that a 9 MM round is not worthy? It is not! Highly evective, plentiful, and available. I'll stake my life and my family's life on it. Otherwise all the armed forces and LEO in this word would not go into battle with it. let's just GETERDONE! Next buy is the Emp...Just love the Springfields.

ALL the armed forces and LEO's? That's just flat out incorrect.

I have no problems about carrying a 9mm. But the EMP? A thousand dollars is a lot to pay for a compact nine.

Also, with the EMP, there is only one place to buy parts. I don't know what their policy is or will be on the EMP but for their XD's they will not sell some parts. You have to send the gun to Springfield. That's one nice thing about 45 1911's. Lots of places to buy parts.

That's a good point. Not being able to get parts for a gun is a real pain.

This is my favorite 1911, and my ccw most of the time.

It never skips a beat! And it is the original 3", that everyone else copied, if I'm not mistaken.

I just purchased the Micro Compact. Totally love it.

Here is the first day at the range with it:

my problem is I have not yet found a holster (OWB) that accomodates the light rail (without the light). My other 1911's are rounded at the dust cover and this is squared. Any suggestions?
