I have had a couple of Glocks (36 and 23) a couple of 1911's (Springfield Ultra Compact and Charles Daly) all that I foolishly sold in my youth. Now, I want a pistol, one pistol that I can shoot the crap out of and carry a lot. I want a Commander sized 1911. But part of my brain says to get another Glock. Cheaper. Reliable. Not as picky as 1911s can be.

Help!:banghead:

What are your thoughts?

But part of my brain says to get another Glock. Cheaper. Reliable. Not as picky as 1911s can be.

Commander size 1911's can be just as reliable as any Glock. I have a Colt Combat Commander from the 70's that has never given me a problem. (I am second / third owner but have not had a issue) The current Colts are as reliable as any pistol on the market. My last two new Colts have not had even one FTF or FTE.

A quality 1911 will work without issues.

I also have owned Glocks and currently have a G30. They work.

Get what you want, don't "bubba" it and you will be happy. In the end just buy both, and STOP SELLING YOUR GUNS...

my 800 dollar new S&W 1911 is perfect and is so accurate that it's truly a great firearm. Trigger is exceptional. if it were any better i wouldn't care. It's terrific.

Another one to look at is the S&W M&P, which I like to call a "better-feeling Glock." It is made in a full size or compact, no "in between" model like a Glock 19, however. It will be well under your $700 max.

Kimber makes some really great 1911.
A little more pricey but i'd pay for it for the extra safeties if i were to be carrying it alot.

Not as picky as 1911s can be.

Try a post-2000 Colt. They now have a unique grooved barrel throat that greatly improves tolerance with sub-par magazines and poorly designed ammunition. Stick with Colt or Colt OEM maker magazines and you should never have a problem.

I picked up this 04681 Commander (meaning 1991 series, blue) for $585 net; it had about 50 rounds through prior. Flawless and a great carry gun out of the box no need for modifications, tuning, anything. It was net $135 more than the Glock I sold, but it is substantially easier to carry and better in the hand than the Glock 23. It is thinner than the Glock, and for the majority of hands the 1911 grip is just more natural. I believe they are around $700/$725 new "street" price, not the MSRP, of course. The grips are Colt, but vintage ones from a 1970/74 era Commander I had squirreled away. The stock rosewood double diamond grips are very nice; I put them on another 1911 style pistol.

SOO much easier to carry than a Glock 23:
