I used to have a nice rounded off collection, but had to liquidate the majority to stay afloat do to an accident that totalled my automobile that I was making payments on and then losing my job within a week after that do to other reasons. :(

The only firearm that I was able to justify keeping was my S&W 642 for all aspects of self defense (CCW, HD, automobile). Now I feel naked and somewhat undergunned with only 5 .38's on hand in the gun. :what:

I have shot this gun to over 500 rounds and dry fire practice with A-Zooms on a regular basis. I feel comfortable that I can use it effectively if called on to do so. I still feel undergunned since the hi-cap 9's, .357 revo, 12 ga shotgun are gone. :fire:  :barf: :cuss: :banghead:

Help! I need some positive reinforcement! Anyone out there in a similar situation? :uhoh:  :scrutiny:

km,

Twice in my life I have had to sell off all but one of my guns. The first time I kept my 1911, as I wasnt' completly broke (and oh god could it shoot!)

The second time I was down to a Charter Arms Bulldog. Oh doggies I was broke. So I feel your pain.

I think the thing to remember is that most fights, gun or otherwise are won by attitude, strategy & tactics and then equipment. The majority of the time if you do have to pull it, just it's being there is enough and you don't have to shoot to end the fight.

If you do have to shoot, I allways shoot the right eye out first, it seems to leave an impression on even the dullest fool. :)

Good luck. Just think how great you'll feel when you do get to another new gun!

i carry a five shot Chief's Special more than any other gun. i have many other guns to choose from, but that trusty little gun is my favorite sidekick.

do i feel undergunned? nope.

to look at the bright side, only having one gun to take to the range means you probably know that gun inside and out, and how to use it's strengths and weaknesses to your best advantage. and most importantly, how to make those five shots count.

That's an unfortunate situation, kmrcstintn; you have my sympathies.

However, thousands of people with fancy gun collections stick with the time-tested J-frame revolver for CCW, so you're fine on that front.

Even from a home defense standpoint, while your current situation is not ideal, it is a lot better than having no gun.

PS: You won't need to rebuild your collection in order to banish all feelings of "nakedness." You just need one more gun, and it will cost a lot less than your S&W 642 did. As you know, quality defensive 12 gauge pump shotguns such as the Mossberg 500 Persuader can be had for around $250 brand new, less if used. Mossberg Mavericks run $200-$225 new, less used.

A shooter with a trusted J-frame for carry and a 12 gauge for home could go the next 20 years with just those two guns. Though obviously, I hope you don't need to.

I'll have to agree. I'm not a collector & have very few firearms. I'm a shooter & don't need a lot to keep up with. My happiness comes from pulling the trigger & loading ammo.........not looking at stuff in the safe. Enjoy what you have and get a shotgun.............

Ten years ago, due to political and immigration laws and abject stupidity on the part of my then fiance', I had to sell everything but one Excam .22 semi. to help her escape from Vietnam

I have built my collection back up to over 40 now but a Taurus 85 is still my most used carry gun and an old Savage pumpgun defends the house

An old saying. "Beware of the man with just one gun!"

So many times, I have seen old timers with a well worn gun, be it rifle or pistol, that would strike awe into those younger shooters with whole arsenals at the range when he brought his targets back to the line.

"Lern the gun, sonny, listen to whut it has to teach you!!" You don't need a bunch of guns if you know the one your shootin'!!
