What's a good historical book about M1 Garand?

I'm mainly looking for information about the technical design, history, prototypes, service use, etc.

I don't care about info on collecting, values and drawing numbers.

J.S. Hatcher's 'Book Of The Garand', published about 1948, is still worth getting for the development story.

Canfield's books, Thompson's books, Duff's books. All excellent. I think you need all three authors.
