I recently got a SmartCarry holster, and like it. I carry my G26 in it and it's super-comfortable and invisible. For extremely deep conceal, I'll put my j-frame in there.

It works so well, I'm wondering if I could carry something larger. I know the guy making them claims to carry a full-size 1911, but... he's selling them! :scrutiny:

What's the biggest thing in YOUR SmartCarry (and how do you like it)?

Charlie, the guy that makes and sells "Smart Carry" is a god.... I love my SC, I got it to carry a Glock 27, I traded it off and now I carry a Smith J-framed snubbie in it and love it. If Charlie says he carries a 1911 in his I would believe it. He has a 60 day return policy if it don't work for you.

I carry a Commander sized clone or a P3AT or sometimes a 340PD.

Is it just me or do most men with SC have to drop their drawers to urinate because of the SC-penis blockade of the zipper route?

I have and occasionally use a large smart carry. I bought it specifically to carry a full size 1911. The holster is effective and relatively comfortable. When I really need to hide a pistol thats my rig. Draw is slower but I'm confident I won't be made. With the large you can use pins or stuffing to block it off and use it for the smaller weapons. Definitely worth the price.

I hope you guys got your discount when you ordered.

Anyone ordering a Smart Carry holster can get a discount if they say they heard about it on Gun Talk Radio.

That's Charley's deal. He's a good guy. I have no financial connection to that at all.

In my Smartcarry is a Springfield 3" XD40 SC/HC with the 9 round clip and a Pearce Grip Extencion. AWESOME, TOATLLY AWESOME!!!!

I have a question for you guys that use the smart carry - I've seen them on the web and I've wonderred

How fast or slow can you draw your gun?

I figure you'd have to walking around all day like Al Bundy with one hand down your pants?

Is this thing really easy to draw from?

vynx, I find it a little faster than tuckable iwb. one negative aspect is like you suggested, i don't think you can really draw as discreetly as other carry methods.

i do think draw speed is greatly affected by your body shape.

You are correct, sir! I guess you would describe my shape as 'round', so, I only use the Smartcarry when I am wearing sweats. With anything else draw speed goes way down for me.

One for a Smith 686 2.5", one for a full size 1911...
I can wear them with anything, anywhere. No one ever notices.
With practice, the draw is about as fast as w/ a 4o'clock, strong side under a coat. Good deal.
Got mine due to listening to Charlie talking to Tom on G.T..
Yes, do ask for the discount. Heck.. call up Charlie and just talk to him.. super nice guy.

I know at least one guy who DOES regularly carry a full size 1911 in his SC. I usually carry a J-frame .38 but I happen to know that John Ross carries a 4" S&W .500 magnum in his Smart Carry. He is a SC dealer and I'm sure he'll sell you a 4" .500 to put in it, too!

YIKES!

Does he wear earplugs 24/7 in case he needs to use that thing?

That's true, and a great feature, but I don't even have the gun picked out. I'm kind of deciding on my next handgun, and how well it carries is important (I can't dress "around" my gun). I have a great snub and subcompact 9mm. I have a full-size 9mm for home. I'm thinking a "compact" for carry when I just want something a little more and the clothes will support it.

yesterday it was an HK USC compact 9 mm.

That's what I was looking for... That's one of the guns I'm considering (or at least the size), and just wondered how well (and how comfortably) it concealed... Thanks "slob." I assume by putting that you endorse carrying the USPc as comfortable and concealable?

I've done the Glock 26 and a snub in a "small" size, and they carry GREAT. I just was thinking a compact Sig or HK USPc would be a nice next gun, even more so if I could carry it comfortably and invisibly a la SC.

Thanks everybody...

I've met Charlie, and he DOES carry a full sized 1911 in his. He was at a local gun show and I was checking out the Smartcarrys. Now, Charlie is a smaller guy, kinda on the short side, but taller than me, and skinny as a rail. Judging by the belt buckle he was wearing and the tattoo, he's a former Marine, like myself.

I asked him how he though it would conceal a full size XD and he whipped a 1911 out of his jeans. (of course it was zip-tied safe for the gun show) My responce was "Ok, but how does it work for us fat guys with big johnsons?". He chuckled when I laughed and I let him know that I was also a former Marine as was my father who was also with me.

Charlie is a heck of a guy. He even offered to let me take one to the restroom and try it on. His product is great. You'd think that you would see a full size 1911 on a skinny guy wearing regular jeans, but you couldn't see anything. He was sitting and standing the entire day without issue.

I want to make sure nobody thinks I was disrespecting Charlie, or questioning his integrity. I bought a small SmartCarry from him for a G26, and he's a great guy, it's a great product. I have no doubt he has used his SC for a 1911 - heck, the pictures were right on the site!

It's just when you run a business, you belive like crazy in your product, as you should. You might overlook, say, a painful poking or pinching sensation in a tender spot when you use your product. As a customer, I might not be as happy to overlook such a poke!

I think it was Reagan who said: "Trust, but verify." :)

Commander sized clone or Charter Mag Pug-mostly the MagPug
On occasion, the MagPug in the SC and the other IWB...:what:

I regularly carry a Glock 29 and a spare magazine in mine. Just for fun my HKVP70Z will fit in the same rig. For me it is the most convenient way to carry a reload comfortably and as concealed as the firearm.
