I would like your alls opinion.I am thinking of selling my 257 Weatherby
It is a Remington 700 CDL-SF with a Sightron Big Sky 4.5 X14 AO scope with
Leupold mounts and bases. It has approximatly 22 rounds shot through it.
Also 2 almost full boxes of ammo and a Tipton carbon fibre rod and a custom made Mike Lucas bore guide What do you all think its value is

Markets soft on used rifles right now, definately a following for this caliber but it's more of a niche market. Best bet most likely would be to separate the scope and sell it separately.

I would have been interested, but bought an SPS .257 a few months back and re-stocked it.

That's a nice set up, but in addition to the market being less than desireable (and completely opposite big game season) as cal74 mentioned, the quarterbores are even less popular. And the .25-06 holds the overwhelming majority of that already limited segment. Even worse, Weatherby chambered guns are often passed on because of ammunition availability and cost.

I assume you have a little over $1,200 into the rifle (~$750) and scope (~$500). The bases, mounts, rod, guide and ammo are nice thow-ins, but really don't add to the value (alot of ammo does, but < 40 rounds, not so much).

You can probably recover most of what you paid for the rifle, but generally speaking, scope value drops like a rock when they become part of the package. I think you'd be doing pretty well to get $800-$900 for it right now.

I may be off, and someone on GA or GB may fork over a premium for it, but that's my best guess.

as machiv points out, you've got a lot going against you... my best guess is you're looking at $700 as a package deal. if you split it up, you'll do better. but, if you sell the package right now, you're going to take a beating on it. if you can sit on it until mid-august at the earliest, you'll be in better shape.

as a handloader, i would have zero interest in paying for loaded ammo, and the availability and cost of weatherby brass doesn't give me much in the way of warm fuzzies. also, as someone who is very particular about rings, bases, and mounting of scopes, i would not be interested in paying for rings and bases.

why not just hang on to the rifle, and if the chambering is the problem you have w/ it, ask a smith to re-chamber your barrel, or install a custom barrel? you have a long action remington 700 w/ a mag bolt face... the sky's the limit for your chambering options.

good luck!

Market is "market"..... it's worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it. I have to agree. hang onto it!

Poster earlier, but never really mentioned price. I'm guessing you'd be able to get about 650.00 for the rifle/bases. Might take a while, but it'd be a decent price.

Scopes about 500.00 new isn't it, resale probably 300-325.00 on most boards. Feebay you'd probably get more, but their fees are nuts.

Ammo you could easily sell for 1.00-1.50 a round and it'll get snatched up very quickly.

I'd be more than happy to give you 700.00 for the whole package, just let me know where to send the money.

BTW, why are you trying to unload it? I assume you like the system, since it's your username here. Are you just needing cash? Because otherwise, that's a perfectly good all around hunting rig for any game on our continent, save the big, nasty, snarling bears in the freeze-your-butt-off regions.

thank you all for your thoughts. Its kinda like this been laid off 2 yrs cant really afford it

do you all think a gun shop would trade it for a new sig pistol ?

Maybe. There's only one way to find out. As a good rule of thumb, a gun shop is going to give you 60-70% of what they feel they can sell the gun for. So if they think they can get $1,000 for your package, you'd probably get $600-$700 on your trade in. Might be able to fair better if you're in good with a local dealer, but this is pretty standard. For example, when I traded in my Ruger P-94 toward my Kimber Stainless Target II 10mm, they only gave me $200. I'd probably have kept the Ruger, but I didn't care for it, I only paid $200 for it myself, and I really wanted that Kimber (rare at the time, and on sale for $849 to boot), and only had $700 cash, so I felt that it was the best decision. Nevertheless, that gun could have been sold privately for $350-ish.

But also, as I mentioned earlier, this is the wrong time of year for selling hunting rifles, so that may adversely affect your value.
