Ok - I've been buying my non-rimfire pistol ammo from georgia-arms.com lately, and I have a question regarding brass values.

They have a program where you can send them back your once-shot brass, and depending on the caliber they'll credit up to $5 per 100. I'd be sending back .45 ACP and .38 Special cases, at $4 and $2 per hundred, respectively.

Now, extrapolating that to 1,000 cases each, I'd be getting $200 per 1k for the .38 Special, and $400 per 1k for the .45.

If I were to offer the same amount of cases for sale, in the same condition (once fired, untumbled & still primed) what could I expect to get for them? It seems to me that sending 'em back to the folks at G-A is the way to go, I just was curious to see what kind of prices some of ya'll would pay for brass.

(and let me say, I know full well that a lot of ya'll are much too thrifty to buy brass, in general, but humor me, huh?)

Thanks fellas!

You may want to check that math:)
$20.00 per 1000 and $40.00 per 1000
Sorry for ruining your day

Cool date that you joined up on. Do you know Jaggers Sympathy For The Devil

I sell my surplus handgun brass to freinds and family for the going scrap price when it's not free. Anyone else about $2.00 a pound

back in the good days of ebay that would bring a lot of moola

now you outta try auction arms or gunbroker.

Don't Tell - Ya didn't ruin anything..I typed an extra zero on each. I was thinking 20 and 40, but didn't catch that apparently. Thanks for the heads up.

Quo - That's interesting, but I wonder how much luck he'll have. I could post it for sale for a bunch of money, but that doesn't mean I'd get it, heh.

You can get a little more for it on a private sale as opposed to returning it to Georgia Arms. But you have to deal with shipping that way. Suppose you do returning to G-A also, so sell it yourself and put the profit into more new ammo.

It runs about 30-50 bucks per thousand for 45ACP on gunbroker.com. As a reloader, I stocked up a year ago and have pretty good recovery rates with the 45. And where I shoot, I end up adding to my reserves by invariably picking up the typical non-reloader's brass.

Here's a link to 1k brass sales on gunbroker.

Good to know. I'll have to take that into consideration. I do like the simplicity of the deal GA has though. I send it in, get credit on my next order, done. No hassle with auctions, trying to sell it through classifieds, etc.

Thanks for the help ya'll.

Pawning it off to THR members here in the classified section is a good option also and you won't have to deal with any auction sites or any that jazz.

OMG, TSNF!
sorry, always wanted to say that since that annoying commercial came about.

Hey, buddy.... you could sell me your brass. ;-) I'd just seperate it by caliber, and then post on here that you have "1000 rounds of 38spcl once-fired cases!" and ask for offers. Wait a week, then sell to the highest bidder... kinda like ebay, only better because I hate ebay.

About $1.15 per pound at the scrapyard. At least that is what they are paying in VA.

I will take 1000 of the 45 ACP for $40...and I will pay the $8.95 flat rate postal priority shipping too! heck...I will take 2000 cases.

One caveat - prefer none shot from a Glock (unsupported case in the chamber).

Email me if you want.

dcloco - I don't quite have that many cases, but I'm keeping all that I can. When I get up a bit more, I might as well put up an ad on here and see if anyone's interested. I'll keep your email addy in my address book as well, if you'd like.

Hate to be a spoilsport, but someone suggested soliciting bids. Check out Rule 9.

9. Put a price next to every item you have for sale -- "best offer" doesn't cut it here. If you're not sure what a given item is worth, there are a number of other areas on this board where you can ask and get objective advice.

JIC you didn't know...

I'm with you on that one. I have seen places where people are selling 38 spcl brass for 1,500 for $45. If you want to sell the 38 spcl brass PM me.

this guy will sell you 1000 for $40, or 1400 for $53. Shipping included, dealt with him a few weeks ago, great guy.

He only sells .45acp, .357sig and some .223...not that much. I hate to be a jackleg, but I was kind of keeping this contact a secret to keep him from raising the prices...then I stumbled upon the local LEO range and ALL of the 40cal and 9mm that I can handle plus some. My friend is a LEO at the prison and he collects all the .308 brass from their training, along with any .223 that he can get from their mini14's. It's all good stuff, all guaranteed once fired as that's all the state buys.

He claims they have a guard tower full of crates of brass that they're planning to sell in order to buy more ammo. Whoever the state sells that to is going to get a heckuva deal.

Your fired cases of any caliber are worth more to you once you start reloading!!!

Buying 1,000 rnds at a time from georgia-arms.xxx at roughly $.25ea. ($235+Shipping per 1,000) Hmm...? Once you had the reloading equipment, (Yeah, I know there are threads on whether reloading your own is cost effective), you can load these for less than half that price per each finished round. And get tons of reloads from both 45acp and .38spl. With thousands on hand at all times, I haven't bought ammo or empty brass for years.

Just a thought. Now that you've got a stockpile of brass, maybe it's time to think about reloading equipment instead of selling off key components.

Jack - For a number of reasons, I just can't get into reloading right now, so the best options I have are to save up the brass in hopes of the situations that keep me from getting into reloading being changed, (unlikely right now) or save up that brass and sell it back either to GA or other reloaders.

As far as GA ammo costs - it's still cheaper than any other brand/deal that I'm interested in, and their ammo is quality stuff.

Thanks for the advice though, just not able to put it to much use right now unfortunately.

Kingpin, if you think you will get into reloading someday then the best thing you can do is keep the brass.
davinci thanks for the link.

Rusty - at this point, getting started in reloading is very much on the back burner. I do want to at some stage, but I shoot fairly often so I'll always have at least some brass lying around to start with. In the meantime, I have a good bit to spare that can help me buy more ammo, or other stuff I need more immediately.
