What's the best "true" pocket pistol...?

The SW J Frames such as the 642 seem to be the choice of lots of gun owners. The Kahr PM9 is pretty popular too. Both with good reason.

I carry a Ruger LCP on a regular basis.
The best advice I have regarding pocket guns is that, especially if you're looking at a "pocket revolver", double-check that it'll fit comfortably in your pocket in a pocket holster before you buy one for that purpose. I had a S&W 637 that I wound up selling. It does not fit in average-sized front pockets on jeans. Not by a long shot. I guess the possible benefit of it was that I didn't actually need to put my hand in my pocket to grip the gun.

My EDC varies from a K frame 357 to one of several J frames, but there is ALWAYS a Seecamp in my pocket.

Glock 27 works well if you're not wearing nut-hugger jeans. Use an Aholster.

My thinking is that if you're not willing to bet your life on the reliability of your carry piece, then there's no use in carrying it because your are doing exactly that.

The 442/642 is a time-tested standard for a reason.

The LCP set a new bar for reliability in a very-compact affordable auto.

Buy both.

I used to pocket carry my P3AT but since I can't find ammo anymore for it (has anyone seen decent .380 on shelves?)... I now carry a S&W 642 airweight .38. I would suppose the S&W would be more reliable but I haven't had trouble with either. Autos are easier to conceal (flatter sides) but revolvers are simpler. I recommend the S&W simply based on reliability and ease of finding ammo.

...as a side note...Dockers heavy front-pleated jeans have wonderful pockets for carry purposes...last I bought were at Penneys...heavier jean material hides well and looks good for semi-casual...cheaper than the "gun jeans"...regular front pockets with side slash, not cargo...they will hide a J 2 or 3" well...

My Colt Mustang Pocketlite is pretty nice and I generally carry it on all of my road trips on the motorcycle.
I like the Ruger LCP but I am not wild about any firearm that does not have a mechanical safety.
But that's just me.
That Seecamp is pretty nice looking as well.

Oh yea...CZ223 you are right that you should have never sold your Mustang.
I am staggered at the prices they are fetching today.

has anyone seen decent .380 on shelves?

It's around on-line. I don't run into it much at the big box stores, WalMart, Bass Pro, Cabellas etc.

Right now the prices for JHP are high, about the same as .40.

I picked up a couple boxes from these guys this week as it is in stock and I needed a particular recommended round for the LWS .380. The turnaround was about 8 days.

Here is some more. I have bought from these guys three of four times. No problems.

Speer, Mag-Tech and COR BON.

well...I am an advocate of the P3AT and have owned two... each of which has since passed to members of my family. In replacing my pocket gun I was initially going to go with the P3AT again cant beat consistency, but then I picked up the Taurus TCP... and well, getting one today. It is actually an original design not just a copy....ahem ruger.... and it has a far superior feel and trigger to both the lcp and the P3AT... SO, nothing ventured nothing gained, I am taking the experimental plunge...Same price as both the KT and the LCP so no biggie there, I will put some rounds down range as soon as possible...

Taurus haters, save it. I have several and have not had a single hiccup out of the revolvers or the semi-autos.

After carrying a jframe for a while I switched to a Kahr MK9 for pocket carry. It is flatter and holds more rounds.

I have my Beretta .32acp in my pocket as I write this. gave up on a .25acp but they appeal to some I suppose. just not enough 'punch' to suit me.
years ago as a construction foreman I carried a .22 Mag over-under derringer on a chain around my neck and a 6" switchblade in a calf holster.

The best "true" pocket pistol is a fairly subjective question, with opinions running like toes on the feet, but you'd have to stray far from the path to not mention the stardard derringer as being as "true" a pocket pistol as you could find. Whether it has any great application in today's world is another matter entirely, of course.

In the beginning, I carried a compact .45

And lo, in full accordance with prophecy, it was heavy and thick and had few cartridges, and became a burden loathsome in my sight.

And then, I downgunned to a J-Frame, and was happy for many years, until I finally admitted to myself that without a full length extractor, rapid reloading was not going to happen, and my safariland style speedloaders were not going to save me because I would die while finger picking expended .38 cases out of the cylinder.

Here is the rest of the tale:

Summary: I ended up going with a single stack 9, selecting the Walther PPS as the best fit for me, noting advantages over both Kahrs and Rorbaughs.

PF9 is perfect, tiny, a good shooter and crazy thin. Problem is finding one. Love mine.

c5, my friend has a PF 9, and I realize it's not a pocket gun for jeans... he bought a clip for IWB/belt-carry, but doesn't have much experience with it yet...how do you carry yours, and have you carried like this...??? Thought this might be a litle more liberating, as
I could at least carry it without a holster... Thanks,
Tac
Anyone else out there carry a PF9 using the clip...???

I've packed my Colt Mustang stainless alloy Pocketlite for years in various methods. I was very disappointed when I heard Colt discontinued this fine little powerhouse. Then a few days ago on this forum I saw that Colt had sold the Mustang to Sig. It's now the Sig P238. If you like a single action semi-auto pistol, this is a very good one to pack.
