What's the cheapest knife you've ever bought brand new?

This a bit weird,,,
But I'll post it anyways.

I once was a regular at a restaurant bar,,,
I made friends with most of the waiter/waitress staff.

When I found out that the owner mad them park way out in the dark/dangerous/boonies,,,
I made them all key chains with a $1.00 knife attached to it.
They were Chinese made and very cheap.

But I did put a fine cutting edge to all of them

The theory was that they would walk to their cars (in the dark),,,
With the knife open on the key Fob I made for them.

Believe it or not it worked,,,
One young lady was accosted going to her car,,,
She went all Tasmanian Devil on the man who attacked her.

He was arrested later that night,,,
After he went to an emergency room,,,
To get treated for all of the knife cuts he had received.

It doesn't matter if it's a mega-buck custom blade,,,
Or a cheaply manufactured pocket knife.

It's all in how you use it.

Just like guns.

Any pictures of these dollar keychain knives?

Never been much a fan of a knife on a keychain as I feel they'd be too small to be of use, but too big would be pain to carry around. I am a fan of keychain lights however.

OP here, I would like to encourage all who still have their cheapest knife to take a picture so we can gaze upon the glory of thrifty value. Also, a reminder this is for new knives, not used dime pieces found in a yard sale. It's interesting to see what value you got for the money in knives going back to the 50/60s thru to today.

Always with the caveat that the cheap knife is just inexpensive and not cheaply made to the point falling apart or being a danger to the user.
e.g. -
it would loosen up after opening it a few times. I was thinking of putting Loctite on it but the fifth day I had it the spring snapped

Might be a good topic all on its own if you'll start a thread on keychain knives. That way we get to see inexpensive and custom "keychain" knives.

It would of been recently with a Kershaw Shuffle II, paid $7 with discounts. I purchased it because it's thin and lower profile - woman's jeans are not fitted to have deep and loose pockets in smaller sizes, so it's beneficial to have a slim profile knife to cut tape, boxes, etc with. I'm not a big fan of the liner lock as it's difficult to press in, but I've thrown some Ballistol on it in hopes that it'll work itself in one day. The plus side is I suppose it truly does lock into place with no wiggle for a budget knife, but as a result it's difficult to press in that liner lock. I've used it as a workhorse.

That would be a slipjoint from Kamp King purchased from a hardware store with saved allowance money.
It is undoubtedly buried in a box in my home...as I would never knowingly just toss it out with the garbage.

I get upset with the small pockets on men's summer shorts sometimes, often the front pockets are not deep enough to keep things from spilling out when seated. I hadn't thought of the even smaller scale on woman's garments.

Welcome to THR!

ozark trail

I forgot I actually bought an Ozark multitool. I had a Gerber suspension and the pouch was absolute trash. I bought the 9 dollar ozark just to get the pouch because it was 10x better than the Gerber. The ozark took looked to be junk though.

AND it is a rip off of the CRKT M16.

Was the m16 ever spring assisted. The 4 I have aren't. I just finished cutting up a potato with one of my 13 dollar M16-01s

I think I bought a 1 dollar leatherman knockoff from Walmart, and I'm ashamed how much I've used that stupid thing because its usually there and handy.

That's impressive discounts on a $25 MSRP folder!
If you shop around online you can at times find some insane sales on knives. I mostly focus on Cold Steel because the quality is there and I've bought machetes for $5. When big online retailers who aren't specifically selling blades want to dump such things, they basically move them at cost or below. Right now the CS Bushman $12 on Amazon and it comes with a sheath and flint striker fire starter. I mean, how can you go wrong?

A $9.95 Chinese folder, from a vendor, at a bike Rally in Myrtle Beach 17 years ago. Stamped 440C the thing has held up and I still carry it once in while today.

Did you see the shipping times for that Bushman? “usually ships in one to two months...”

A little Kershaw for $1 from CDNN - as many as you wanted. I gave a bunch away, they were handy!

Amazon quotes times longer than usual. My guess is it'd take three weeks. Big deal, I don't need the thing tomorrow.

I ordered a Bushman from Midway back in December and it's still on backorder. Maybe the threat of mob violence has caused demand to overtake supply as with ammunition. o_O

Folder: Kershaw Hotwire $7 clearance at Walley World
Fixed: Mora Companion $15
Both pretty good knives; inexpensive, but not cheaply made.

I'm guessing we are skipping over cheapo matt knives and snap-blade utility knives (I've bought many at the one dollar level).
"Cheapest" folder probably has to be the free "gimmees" I got with other purchases. One of those was a marketing teaser by Gerber that was not quite 2" folded.
Not sure if I ever spent less than $30 on a fixed blade.

I didn't buy my first fixed blade, I got it free for saving and redeeming Popsicle wrappers. This was about 1949-50. I still have it. It's seen hard use that only a kid could provide.
