I'm sort of interested in a Hy-Hunter .22 single shot. I've heard it's a copy of an old model Stevens. I know they were made in W. Germany but I know little else about them. Any info? Thanks.

If they are at all as nice as the origianl, they'll make the owner a smiling person. My brother has on of the Stevens made ones and it's very nice and comfortable. A co-worker of mine also ahs a Stevens made one and shoots it often . Quite accuartely too I might add. :)

Hy Hunter History

Hy Hunter imported a lot of cheap .22 pistols back in the late fifties and early sixties. The Stevens Favorite was a popular one, and was a pretty reliable pistol, even though it was made mostly of pot metal and the barrel had a steel rifled liner. I had one in mint condition about a yuear ago and let it go for around $140. He also brought in some cheap German revolvers, but these always seemed to suffer from poor timing and would splatter lead sideways out the cylinder when fired. I seem to recollect he also brought in some Derringers, all in .22 caliber. There was a pretty little four barrel derringer from Japan made by Miroku, but I am not sure if Hy Hunter was the importer.

Oh, that's too bad to hear about the pot metal and liner. I recently held a Hy hunter copy of the Stevens favorite pistol and I really liked the design and how it felt in the hand. I've wanted a little single shot .22 pistol for some time. Sounds like I'd be better served by trying to find a real Stevens favorite. My real concern was that the original wouldn't be able to handle modern .22 ammo but it doesn't sound like the Hy hunter copy would fair much better with modern .22 ammo.

I own a HY Hunter .22 Magnum, .22 Long Frontier 6-shooter Model, made in Western Germany never been fired. Will swap for .38 Magnum.
