Rexster im really curious as to what this defect is?Ive googled all i could and found nothing about this design defect or what big police agency in texas decline to approve XD's.
It is a roll pin. The manufacturer apparently denies there is a problem. A member of another forum, familiar with the XD, knew what I was talking about, and indicated it was a known problem, though not necessarily common.
Google will not tell you much, as (x)PD policy is not searchable, nor available on-line, unless someone leaks it.
Plenty of agencies allow only one or two duty pistols, so my employer going from three to four brands is still fairly generous. One other brand is undergoing the testing that may get us back up to four.
I can be disciplined for discussing my employer's policies while being identifiable as a member of my PD. My user name, plus saying which PD, would be probably be enough to cross that line.
Edited to add: Keep in mind that lawsuits happen, and big entities with deep pockets are especially likely to be sued. If a broken part, known beforehand to be a problem, affects the outcome of a critical incident, well, that is a liability. An individual can evaluate the probability of a failure, and choose accordingly. The XD has never been my cup of tea, so I have had no urge to research this. I do read everything I can find on potential problems with SIGs and Glocks, because such things affect me.
To be clear, I am not anti-XD, nor anti-Springfield Armory, Inc.
