What's the lowest velocity load you've ever chronographed

I loaded some 165 gr Ranier's, with 6.5 grains of AA #5, as per my reloading manual, got 800 fps. It felt really weak too, didn't like it. They cycled my XD ok, but not by a big margin.

My oldest sons red ryder bb gun shoots at a whopping 117 fps average with the lowest of 5 movin at 98 fps.

When I was a teen living at home in the 60's my dad brought home a flintlock musket. An original English Tower with a date of 1765. A smith versed in these guns said it was safe to shoot with light charges. Dad didn't want to try it first so I loaded it and shot it.

I put in an amount of black powder that I hoped would be enough to get the ball out of the barrel with blenty of bore butter on the patch. The gun fired on the first strike and I could see the ball head towards the 1/2" plywood target 20 yards away with a pronounced arc. The ball bounced off the target without hardly leaving a mark.

Would guess velocity of 75-100 fps. We still shoot that gun on July 4th every year at the family picnic but put a little more powder in it. I chrono'd 300-350 fps with the amount of powder my dear ol' dad allows.

Blue Dot

No, I didn't put 'em through the chrono, but I know I've loaded .38 loads with Blue Dot that ran under 400 fps. A few years ago I had a pile of .356 cast 100gr for .380, and I decided I'd make a few .38 Special gallery loads, and I chose Blue Dot. I could see the bullet in flight shooting at 50 yards.

I calculated the velocity using QuickLoad, and the result was sub 400fps.

As mentioned, Blue Dot wants 'more power.' It's not for plinking loads. I like Blue Dot, but in my .38 loads I load to the top end of 'safety' as published, use brass that's +P, and use magnum primers. It's just NOT suitable for plinking loads like, say, Red Dot or Bullseye are.

Shot an old box of .32S&W factory loads that averaged around 400fps. You could watch the bullets arc their way to the target. About a 12" correction to POA at 25 yards. It was pretty cool actually. I have thought about down loading my .32H&R Mag. It would make a good plinker round for the wife without alot of noise or recoil.
