What's The Smallest Capacity That You're Comfortable With?

Couple thousand. Why should I be comfortable with anything less than the government thinks it needs?
Tonight I had 3 pistols totaling 28 rounds for dinner with the family at a nice restaurant. Because I can.

These are personal choices for me, in 357 mag 5 rounds, in 9mm 14 rounds and if carring a 45 ACP 7 rounds is sufficient.

Ten. I carry a Glock G26, normally with a +2 magazine. But if its summer and I'm in a T-shirt I use a standard ten round magazine. For a very long time a Browning high power was considered excessive to need with 13 rounds. I don't think that has really changed much. If faced with multiple muggers I think I'd want more than 5 or 6. That is not much margin of error if for multiple determined attackers. My main worry when I carry is dogs and muggers. Muggers are most likely to be two or more.

I'd have to say 10 minimum total. Whether that's 5 + a reload, or 7 + a reload, or 10 in a single mag... 10 seems to give me the feeling of comfort to take on any reasonably foreseeable situation. 1-3 perps, a few shots at each.

Minimum caliber .380. Preferable caliber ranges 9mm/40/45.

Of course, I want more than 10, so I generally have 15-30 rounds, which makes me feel better.

And there are variables, that include time of day, where I'm headed, how far from home, etc. Further from home/deeper from an armed police response means that I want more ammo/guns with me. Out of state trips nearly always include 2 handguns, a long gun, and lots of ammo.

Given the wide range of carry scenarios for me...

I've been happy to have as little as an NAA .22 mag but generally feel being armed well starts with our 5 round .38s. 2 snake shot and 3 Hydra-shoks.

This issue from a different angle

To me the most important issue is will you have your CCW on you when you need it. I could not find anything in a 9mm or greater that was comfortable enough to wear in a shoulder holster (my preference) or IWB.

For that reason I went with a Bersa .380, the James Bond Walther PPK knock off. With +P HP ammo., it is just short of the stopping power of a standard 115 grain 9mm FMJ.

The Bersa standard or "slim" holds 7+1 and I carry a 2 mag. belt pouch with it. I can swap out the mag in about 5 seconds. I could have gone with the Bersa Plus which is 13 rounds, but when I bought it, the run on guns and ammo had just started and there were no 13 round mags to be found anywhere. In addition, the grip on the plus is noticably bulkier than the slim and is just beyond my comfort level.

Self defense is just that...*defense* not offense in which high cap. is desirable. For home defense, I have my trusty Mossberg 500 in 12 ga. with 000 buck. and a .40 cal Beretta 96FS for under the pillow.

In my car, I have a Ruger P89 16+1 9mm which can afford to be stolen since I have another P89 as a backup. Both were purchase in the mid 90's and I would like to add a higher ended handgun to my collection such as a Sig or Glock 19. Again, these are very hard to find right now and are fetching top dollar.

I was around during the Clinton gun ban and really stocked up on ammo which has appreciated significantly over the years. For target practice, I use my Bersa .22LR which is virtually identical to the .380 and my Ruger 10/22 for long rifle and scoped practice.

I don't mind only 8+1 in my Ruger P345. I'd possibly carry 9mm or 40 s&w but with the Glock 30SF and the SA XDs available, I don't have to on my next purchase. In my High Noon Split Decision, the Ruger conceals well on my large personage :)

Well I just picked up a XDs and it carried 5+1 in .45 ACP and I am okay with that.
I do how ever like that my Glock 29 carries 10+1 in 10mm.

To answer your question, 5 rounds minimum.

5 38+p or .357 short barrel in my custom snub.

I actually want to pickup a keltec p32 for pocket carry.

Im of the camp that something is better than nothing, and the extreme light weight of the KT is very intriguing.

I've recently given this a lot of thought having just made a new purchase and truth is I'm quite comfortable with the 9+1 I get in my PX4 .45.
I think the same would be true with a 9mm tho I'd probably be more apt to WANT more. The 9mm is also the smallest caliber wise.
I have all the confidence in the world in my shooting ability so minimum comfortable with? 5+1 is sufficient unless I was up against 10 bad guys in which case I'd probably be up a creek anyway no matter what my skills or how many rounds I had in my gun.
