This year I decided to add another Pietta Remington replica to my collection so naturally I set out looking for another conversion cylinder. Well, folks here been saying Taylor's is now offering the Howell's "R&D" exclusively, I went to their went site on the third of January.

I had gotten my first via Midway USA where I get all my loading supplies but I figured if Taylor's were exclusive now then I better go there. Their web site showed the item available as many have posted here in the past and there was an option to pay for it, so I did.

This was on the third of January mind you, during business hours. Well, I paid for this purchase via a bank card and as you all know that is meant to be just an electronic check straight from a bank account. Well, on Thursday I noticed nothing had been processed through my bank nor had I received any email conformation of my order. hmm

So, on Friday I called Taylor's and enquired about my order. The lady was very nice and helpful. She explained that Taylors entire system was down for "inventory" and she couldn't check any orders, nor had anything been shipped since the first of the year.
But she assured me that "most" conversion cylinders were in stock and orders would process on Monday.

So today I am expecting something, at least a charge to be showing at my bank. But again nothing, So I wait until 5PM CST and I went to Midway.... Guess what!!!

May be outta stock now but it was showing as "available ready to ship" when I called em. The lady was most helpful once again and wanted to be sure I understood not to install it in a brass frame Italian replica and shoot +P round from it. Then she assumed me it would be shipped tomorrow.

So....

What's up with Taylor's ???

I can deal with a week or so of inventory maintenance but cmon guys, showing available and accepting payment when ya can't ship out an item is boarding of fraud as far as I'm concerned.

Anyway, main thing that got me up in a hiss about Taylor's is the "Exclusive" thing they have on their web pages. That kinda pisses me off, Howell's old west still sells em from their own site direct for Christ's sakes.

Thoughts ?

A couple months ago, I wanted to order a replacement cylinder for a Dragoon. I asked them if they had it in stock, they said yes, and would ship it out that day. I placed my order and waited, and waited, and waited. The only email I got was confirmation of the order. Finally, after several weeks, I called and they said it was out of stock and they sent me an email telling me that. I was P.O.'d but didn't get too huffy and just canceled the order.

When I sell a holster it is shipped to the customer usually within about 5 days, each holster is custom made. When the customer receives the holster I encourage them to use it. Once the customer is completely satisfied, then and only then is payment due. This may not be the way business is done in this day and age, but it is the way it should be done.

I would be very upset with paying in advance for items not in stock but represented as being available.

Just my .02 worth.

I'm looking for a left handed holster for a Taurus Judge with a 2.5" chamber and 3" barrel.
That, and a holster for my ROA. Don't remember barrel length. 7.5", maybe. Whatever the barrel length was in 1976.
It's the long barrel, not the shorter 5.5" tube that was offered in later years.
A flap holster, cavalry style, seems to appeal to me.
A regular Western style or slim Jim holster works for me, too. I just like the flap holsters for the protection they provide.

I had thought about getting a conversion cylinder for the ROA or the Pietta Remington, but am not sure.
Hate that you got the runaround from Taylor's

Let's see, they accepted your order, didn't charge your card yet and have not yet shipped, is that right?

And you claim that's "boarding on fraud".

I don't see where you have anything to complain about. You need to take a few deep breaths and then go read the definition of fraud. And patience.

No mykeal, listing an item as being offered exclusively when it is available at several other stores is what I was referring to.

In any event, Midway took care of the problem fast, so no worries for me. If that's how you like to be treated then go right ahead.

I'll stick with other dealers myself.

I've had the same problem with Taylor's. They even went so far as to tell me their gunsmith had to make it and he was busy, so that was what was delaying my order! :fire:

Well, in an effort to understand exactly what is happening these days with Howell Conversion Cylinders....

Taylor's is listing them on their site as "Exclusively offered by Taylor's & Co."

This lead me to believe I would have to purchase my next one from them, and that was further "confirmed" on forums such as this where the poster had likely read the same thing.

That you must purchase direct from Taylors is not correct as was proven today when my new cylinder arrived from Midway in 3 days, same as my first had, from Midway.

But there is a difference, the first came in a box with the name R&D on it. This one came with the Taylors company name and logo on it.

So, it appears to me that Midway got it from Taylors their self, leading some credence to the Exclusive listing.

But I personally prefer to do business with a company that treats their customers right and doesn't dilly dally so to speak. YMMV.

I'm quite sure that mykeal knows a whole lot more about this, "and everything else" than I do so keep that in mind. I only posted my experience for others to consider.

Carry on.

Here's the story. Taylors has exclusive distribution rights for the 6 shot 1858 cylinder that Howell manufactures. You can not buy the 6 shot 1858 cylinder directly from Howell (previously known as R&D). AFAIK, this "exclusive" deal does not affect the numerous other conversion cylinders that Howell manufactures. A 6 shot 1858 cylinder purchased from a retailer like MidwayUSA is distributed through Taylors. Therefore, you can purchase a 6 shot 1858 from any of Taylors' approved retailers. I have no idea how long or short that list is.
