Hey, What's with the Sig P245? I've rarely heard much about it at all. You hear about the other Sigs all the time and people are quick to sing it's praises, but you rarely hear about the 245, it's almost like it's the forgotten Sig. Anybody here have one? What do you think about it? Does it take 220 mags in a pinch?

Personally, I think it's far too large and fat for a 6+1 .45ACP pistol. Not really interested in it, although I like SIGs.

Tis a nice handgun!!!!

Feels great in the hand, graceful, etc...but yes 6 plus 1 does not ring alot of bells for alot of folks. Strange, they rant and rave about the largish 220, but the more compact 245 does get the same jingle. And the G36 gets alot of good press and it is a 6 plus 1 too...so go figure.
I like them alot, but am pretty much committed to the 1911 in various sizes. And My LW Officer's will do all the 245 will do and hold a extra round. So until I get really rich, I'll stick with what works for me.
I think they can use 220 mags, but am not 100 percent sure on that.
I almost bought a 245 to use for a DAO DA w/cocker security commission mandate, but chose a Para LDA istead(Companion....very nice piece!!). But now I get to carry Cocked and Locked, so My Government is on duty, Officer's off duty and the Para gets the house stash gun job for the little lady(till she picks what she wants...still experimenting...but she like's Sig's!).

Jerry Ahern gave it some nice reviews. He liked it so much he got 2 of them.
My wife sure likes hers.

Ahhh SIG's red headed stepchild, the P245.

Here is the deal. It is basically a cut down P220. It is just as reliable, just as accurate, takes the same magazines besides taking it's own shorter 6 round mag and is a solid large bore carry piece.

So why is it the red headed step child, you ask?

Basically the P245 has two big negatives. First it is rather low capacity for it's size. You can get smaller 1911s that hold the same amount of ammo or a Glock 30 that has 10 rounds and is still a bit smaller although thicker.

Second the abbreviated grip (done so for concealability) is very small. It doesn't fit many people's hands very well at all. That is usually the deal breaker for people. It is also a costly firearm.

Now all that being said, I have a P245 and it is just about my ultimate semi auto carry piece for the following reasons.
1)I like .45s and it is a tiny .45.
2)I don't care for 1911s as carry guns. Not my thing.
3)I don't care for Glocks. Had a 30, nice gun, but prefer traditional double action.
4)I love SIGs and have had utmost reliability with all of mine.
5)I have small hands so the P245 actually fits me.

Basically I love mine. It is a SIG through and through, stone reliable and as accuracte as any full sized P220 I have shot. It is however a try before you buy gun. Make sure it fits your hand and go through the motions of loading, mag drops etc. before you make the decision. If you have very meaty hands you might pinch yourself when slamming a magazine home.

Anyway that is my take on the P245 and I am a card carrying SIG-A-HOLIC.

My brother has one and I've fired it up a few times. It's a really good pistol but I wouldn't make it my first choice. The ergonomics are great, it's dead accurate, but the grip feels just a tad too short, so controllability (for me) kind of suffers. The 6+1 capacity doesn't appeal to me either. I would feel more comfortable with a fullsize Sig or 1911.

Before the P220 came out, it was popular to get your P220's chopped by custom Smiths. SIG just decided to make one from the factory to capitalize on it. It worked. I don't hear about any more new chopped 220's. The 245 is awesome. Might be 6+1, but it's 6+1 out of a SIG, that you can conceal easily. It remains one of the mest choices for CCW carry in my opinion.

I have a 220 sig and decided to buy a 245.It didn't point nor balance for me as well as the 220.Didn't like it but that is me.For someone that it fits it would ba a very good carry gun.The 6+1 didn't bother me at all.

When these first came out my first thought was "Finally, a Sig I can get excited about!" that lasted until I picked one up.

I could barely keep my hands on it, and that was without firing it! I considered it overpriced and still do, but if they could/would fix the grip issue, I would definitely revisit the possibility of buying one. Until then, I will just stick with my SW 296 in .44spl.

Minotaur,

Technically they have fixed the grip issue. They now sell the gun with one short mag and an 8 rounder that has a rather ugly, but well executed grip extender.

I have small hands and like the small grip for concealment so it is a moot point for me but it might be worth you checking it out.

Nice Gun, but

the SIG P245 is one SIG that I've never
really warmed up too. I'm still so much in LOVE
with my SIG P220; you might say I have tunnel
vision. The P245 being only slightly smaller than
the P220, I don't really have a need for it! :uhoh: :D

Best Wishes,

Ditto what Ala Dan said. I may end up getting one as I'm on a Sig collecting frenzy right now, but the 245 doesn't flip my switch all that much.
