Hey all - I got my second chance to fondle a Sig P245 yesterday. First time was when I got to meet our own geekwitha.45. The thing I found so striking about the P245 was that it was just such a natural fit for my hand. I've never before or since picked up a pistol that pointed as well and as naturally for me as that gun.

Are there other Sig models that are, externally, the same as the P245? I'm not a huge fan of the .45ACP. Nothing wrong with it, but personal preference is just that, personal. I'd like to get a .40S&W Sig that feels just like the P245. The last couple gun shops I've been to haven't had anything other than the P226 which I did like nearly as much.

Does the P245 share a frame with any other model? Looking at the Sigarms website it looks like they put it in the same family as the P229. But it's not clear if they have a common frame.

245

If you want a 40sw Sig the size of the 245 you might try the 239 in 40sw.Not exactly the same size but close> :)

The 245 is something of a unique frame. The 239 grip looks similar at first, but it's narrower and doesn't have that palm-swell at the base, so it feels completely different. The 228/229s have a wider grip, being double-stacks, and they're basically abbreviated versions of the 226.

There really isn't anything comparable except the 220, of which the 245 is a compact version. The 225 is probably the most similar, but the grip is a bit thinner. If you like Sigs, you owe it to yourself to track down a 225 :)

Everyone has a favorite sig. I have a 229 in 40S&W and love it. It is a very perfect fit for my medium size hand. I would like to get a 239 in 9mm and maybe a 245.

Another vote for the 239. It is extremely accurate and easy to shoot. A Hogue grip makes it even easier to shoot, though not as good for CCW.

The 245 is a shortened version of the 220.

The 226 and the 220 would be about the only SIGs even close.

The 239 is DEFINITELY a different shape and "feel."

If that's the case, get one! You've just listed (for me) the most important factors in the buying-decision process. Despite what you might hear elsewhere, the humble .45ACP is quite adequate for self-defense

If you haven't fired it, you'll find that recoil is very mild, and the gun controls very well. Typical Sig accuracy and reliability with all types of ammo.

I'm going to the gun show this weekend so I'll check out the M457 if there's one there.

Unfortunatly I need to buy a bear defense gun (Redhawk or 629) before a CCW piece. Who knows, maybe after carrying around a hogleg for a few days in the woods I may decide it's not the gun for me and trade it in on P245 or similar.

Erik - I ain't tryin' to dog the .45ACP. It's a good cartridge, and the ones I've shot have been milder than expected WRT recoil. I certainly wouldn't volunteer to stand down range of one.

Well, didn't find an M457 to fondle. I did get a chance to fondle a P229 and a P239. Both of those felt similar, and both were good, but just not quite like P245. So, I guess I'll be saving my pennies for a P245. Unless I find something else in interim that feels better.

Have or have had a bunch of SIG's. While the 229 and 226 fit my large hand vey well the 245 has the best feel. The only SIG that fits/feels better is its big brother the Ultra Classic 220, probably the finest DA/SA .45 to be had.

Dude, how's it feel to be the only guy ever to have big hands and like the P245. Are we talking about the same red headed step SIG? :D

I have small hands so it fits me very well.

Well although I will agree that the P245 doesn't fit many peoples hands well it is still a spectacular totally reliable firearm in my experience. Mine has been flawless and fits my small hands very well.

Yes you can get a Glock 30 and have 11 rounds of .45 but that thing is chunky as all get out and has all of the other Glock quirks. The 36 solves the chunky but puts you right back down to SIG mag capacity.

The Smith 457 IMO is nowhere near as nice a gun as the P245 and was not as accurate, or more likely, I was not as accurate with it. I have bad luck with Smith autos though and basically unless it is a 5906 or a 3913 it has jammed on me. Not flaming just sharing my personal experience. SIGs on the other hand always work for me.

If the P245 fits your hand it will be a marvelous piece that will conceal very well and shoot much like it's big brother the P220. You can also use the full size 7 and 8 round magazines should you desire.

One thing to take note on is the P245 is blued and needs to be taken care of like other blued guns. It is not nitron finished as far as I know.

DISCLAIMER: I AM A SIG GUY WHO LIKES SIG FIREARMS AND VARIOUS OTHER SIG RELATED ITEMS. SO I MAY BE BLINDED BY MY OWN BIASED VIEWS :D

I also have fairly large hands. Not Micheal Jordan size by any means, but big enough that my Ruger P94 with Hogue grips fills my hands but still leaves a little room to spare. My wife cannot shoot that gun as her hands are just too small, and her's are about average for a woman's hands.

Get one of the ones from Ordnance. The Ilaflon coating holds up beautifully, and has a nice sinister sheen to it :) Plus, it's a good deal, and James is a great guy to deal with.

The 245 is a blast to shoot (no pun intended), and if it fits your hand, go for it. You'll be the envy of all the folks who tote those silly Austrian plastic things.
