Does anyone have any experiance with the sig p245 or the sig p229 in .357sig. I just read a review of the sig p245 that was good but in most gun mags you never read about a bad one, so if anyone in real life has one would love to hear about it Thanks.

It's one of my regular carry guns. It's basically a chopped P220, which is the most accurate gun I've ever owned. The 245 is only a hair less accurate past 40ft and actually seems to kick less. Remarkable for a gun that's about the size of a CCO.

I have skinny hands, so the ergonomics are perfect, and for a compact, it's got a nice long sight-radius. Utterly dependable with every type of ammo I've shot through it. Can't recommend it enough if it fits your hands. It's very important that you hold one before buying, as the grip is a bit too short for some. It's roughly equivalent to an Officer's grip. As far as trigger, accuracy and function, it's a Sig like any other :)

For my hands, the P245 has the absolute best fit of any factory stock gun I've ever picked up. Most guns it takes me a second to get the front post to line up with the rear notch. With the P245 there is none of that. Just lift it up, and the sights are perfectly lined up without any effort on my part. My hands are not especially small (my Ruger P944 fits pretty well with the factory Hogue grips). There's a dealer that has a used P245 at a pretty good price not too far from me. If he still has it by Saturday, he won't have it by Sunday.

Thanks for the info I was looking at the p229 in 357.sig as a ccw then read about the p245 and thought I might like it better. I will have to find a store with one on hand to take a look at.

I bought one after trying a friends. The first and only time I shot his, with Winchester 230 gr WB ammo, I put six rounds into the head of an IPSC target from about 30'.

Convinced me that this was a good pistol.

Try before you buy. It's the only SIG I've never really warmed up to. For me, the grip is the wrong length, and I routinely pinched my little finger changing magazines, which never happened with any other SIG. It's a great pistol, but it wasn't for me. YMMV (obviously I'm in the minority here!)

I just bought a sig P-229 in .357sig and I have a new favorite handgun, the gun is great and I really like the .357sig caliber. The gun shot flawlessly and is a pleasure to shoot it replaced my XD subcompact as the gun Ive been CCW lately.

The best advice given here is that if the 245 fits your hand you'll love it. Mine just barely fits my medium to large sized hands. Have to squeeze my pinky finger a bit to get it on. But I can tell you this.
The 245 was my first Sig. It has over 13,000 rounds through it without a single malfunction of anykind. At about 8000 rounds the recoil spring snapped into but I didn't know it until after I got the gun home and broke it down for cleaning. Now I clean and lube my guns after every shooting session. And only use quality ammo. But I don't understand not doing this with a self defense gun. If your butt may depend on it you better take care of it. Otherwise it might not take care of you. About the short grip. it is a blessing and a curse. If the gun fits your hand then it is a blessing. The part of a gun that usually prints is the grip. The 245's grip is small and it makes it easy to conceal under even a t-shirt. Add to that the gun is one of the most accurate handguns I've ever owned it is a great ccw package for me. Alas the 245 is too short evidently for alot of folks hands.
So it is being phased out of the Sig lineup. They are coming out with a gun wioth a 245 upper and a 220 lower. What's the point? The grip is what prints on a ccw gun. If you are going to carry a gun with a grip as long as the 220 then why not just carry the 220? Why give up the extra ballistic effciency of the longer barrel and sight radius? The frame and slide being slightly shorter offers no real advantage.

Surefire, the P245 has, in fact, been discontinued. Along with the P225 and P228. All other models (except the P232/239) will be made exclusively with rails :banghead:.

Even though there are alot on the secondary market, expect all of the above models to gain value (and therefore price) as the supplies dry up over the next coupla years.

The p220 I had shot like a stick of butter, if sticks of butter could shoot. If I could justify the cost of a p245, I would in a heartbeat.

That's my opinion and I'm sticking to it.

I've held and shot several P245's. Love the look of it; the feel is ok for me, albeit a little too short in the grip. SWMBO thought it was too long in the trigger for her, even with a short trigger. I never felt like I was as accurate with the P245 as I am with my P220, though, which I do think is a better 'feeling' pistol to my hand. I'd love to own one. For that matter, I'd like two. That doesn't mean it's my favorite SIG.

Don't get me wrong, I like small big bore pistols. I'm not a large person..in fact, I'd say I'm skinny, yet I conceal the P220 well. I shoot most small .45's well; we've got a Springer Micro Compact in the household that's a sweet shooting, nearly perfect pistol. SWMBO's carry item, to be exact.

My daily carry is a P229 /357sig; thought I'd just throw that in.

My own opinion is SIG is succumbing to AR-itis by putting rails on everything, and the P220 Carry is one abominable looking excuse of an expensive pistol. Of course, I also think pistols should be either black OR shiny, not black AND shiny. I guess two-tone is the 'new black', the way they're marketing it. Another way to look at it is that SIG is reading out of S&W's marketing plan from 1999 and creating 'new models' that are the same model with one item changed.

<shudder>

I guess someone really will buy a single-action P220.

At least they gave us a new rifle.

Rabbit.

I really like mine. As said by some of the other folks the grip is rather short but I have smaller hands so it fits me fine. I find it to be a nice carry size and has been accurate and reliable with a wide variety of ammo. It's a darn nice looking .45 too :)

I have a matched set of 220ST (bedside), 220 (cool weather CCW), and 245 (warm weather CCW). All have been to Tripp for hard chroming and action work.

I must say that the 245 is my favorite -- not because it's necessarily the best shooter of the three, but because it's pretty unique and has now been discontinued.

Get one while you still can! The supposed "245 replacement" that is the 220 Carry, is basically a 245 slide on a 220 frame. This is exactly the opposite of what I believe should have been done for their new 220-based carry gun -- it should have had a 220 slide on a 245 frame.

At any rate, the 245 is a fine gun for CCW or those with smaller hands. I have found that the 245 with a long trigger has about the same reach as a 220 with the short trigger installed. Plus, the 245 has front strap serrations unlike the 220's smooth front strap.

FWIW,
Rich

Hmmm... nobody has posted any pics yet so I might as well be the first. :D

5" Series 1 Kimber for size comparison. German made P220, Ilaflon P245 w/ XS Big dot night sights.

FYI, there are at least 3 for sale in THR's classifieds right now...get them while you still can...:D

I have a P245 and a P229 in .40. Like them both, but for CCW there's no contest, the P245 is less bulky and smaller. That little grip just dissapears IWB.

All good advice above on the P245. If it fits your hand you'll love it.

I'm a cop and I started my job carrying the 220. I went ahead and qualified on my 245 so I could have something a little less bulky for off-duty carry.

But, as the years went by, I noticed that I consistently shot a higher score with the 245 then I did with the 220. Last year I attended a police firearms instructer course. On day one we had to shoot the state qualification course with a 95% or better. With the 220 I was consistently shooting between a 93-94%. I had brought the 245 as a backup and I switched over to it. The first time I scored a 98%. On the long course (50 and 40 yard shooting) I scored an 86%.

I shot the rest of the week with the 245 and I only carry it now. The 220 has been retired to the safe. My reloads are 220 mags and I find that the 245 is more comfortable with the longer 220 mags. Sorry to see that they discontinued it. Fortunately I bought spare parts from the company so I should have my 245 for the rest of my life barring the unforseen.
