A liberal anti that doesnt want anything to do with guns?
or a liberal anti that wants to buy his 12 yr old son a .308 as a first rifle?

my big boss (not the cool supervisor) just asked "what would you recommend for my 12 yr old son for a rifle that he can hunt moose and black bears with?
this, coming from the guy who piddled hiimself at the sight of bullets i retrieved from the backstop.
this coming from the guy who doesnt step one foot in the wild, hasnt fished but off one of those expensive charters where you dont even have to wear any rain gear or boots.
this coming from the guy who has raised his son to be, theres no nice way to put this, a wuss. the kid is afraid of little fluffy dogs. the kid is thin as a waif, maybe weighs 90 lbs if you slapped a tactical load vest stuffed full of a dozen 30 round magazines.

one of his friends suggested the 22-270, and a gunshop he called (was it you WA?) recommended the .308 in a youth remington model.

i suggested a .22lr to get him started, it wouldnt even be humorous to watch a kid get turned off to shooting because he started with a .308.
then again, maybe i'm just jealous of the kid?

Spiffy have him call me Ill give him the Spiff special price and show him the pics too...ya know the ones with the Kimber 45, banana and thong bathing suit.....:)

its not blackmail when i willingly posed for the pics.

not sure if i want the big dumb boss to get the 'spiff price' anyways. considering he spent 4 years bleeding this company with all his 'comped "business" activities' like taking 'clients' to play golf at least once a week, claiming gas expenses over and above the monthly $1000 car allowance he was given, not to mention that the 'company car' was never used for the company, but rather became his wifes vehicle, yet he never carries cash so he bums a couple dollars here and there from his employees so he can eat, or he'll just raid the fridge and sneak bites out of everyone elses food.

he called chimos and great northern guns. told hiim GNG wouldnt steer him wrong.

Oh great. You poor soul. The only response you got was from WildI'llgiveyougreatideastodestroyyourcredithistoryAlaska :D

That doesn't sound like a boss. Sounds like a leach. Leave him to hang. He's not worth saving. He sounds like a nasty guy, and a shallow one to boot. I'd scare him away from guns so fast it'd make his head spin.

But do it in a cool way so he thinks your cool, but that he's in way over his head. I'd suggest taking him (and his kid) to the range to shoot a bolt action .308 and a .50 BMG. But be reserved like, no funny stuff, no sudden moves. Talk about how it's our right as an american to own guns, yet you can understand how people can be intimidated by them, and they aren't for everyone.

That guy won't be in your company long, basically sow the seed in him that makes him realize that you're a cool guy, but guns "just aren't his thing".

I take it he's a schmoozer, "let's do lunch", not very serious about anything in life guy. This equals loser. Just play defence. Oh and keep your kids away from him, you don't want them getting corrupted with goofy ideas.

oh thats another can of worms right there... this ****** (and i say that with as much respect as can be had for the dumbass that signs my paychecks :D ) can't hold a conversation with any child under the age of 10 without using baby-talk. sure, it may have been all his kids could understand, but when he talks to my nieces and nephews as if they were his kids it makes me want to kick him into next week.
ferchrissakes, if you're going to talk to a child and expect them to be able to communicate at an adult level you have to talk to them like adults. :banghead:

nah, i'll let him get that .308 for his wuss kid. just wish i could be there the first time either of them shoot it. i bet a shiny nickel it will result in a hospital visit for one or both. :neener:

Then he'll be complaining that "those high power rifles are too dangerous for sale to the general public and have no purpose except in the hands of trained killers and what if terrorists get ahold of these things and whatsamatter with you, spiff, that you gotta have all these guns"............etc., et yada et :barf:

Who cares what he thinks?
I don't think I would be inclined to help someone like him out. He is obviously a sponge and if you help him this time you are probably going to end up reloading his ammunition for him too. He'll call you up every time he needs a magazine loaded.
I would sort of try the avoidance and distraction method. Don't get in a situation where you have a chance to talk about and if you do, distract him with something else so you can't talk about it.
It will eventually sort of fade away.

Don't take this the wrong way. I work at a gun shop and I would help most anyone if they showed up in front of me with a question or a problem. Hell, I would help them even if I wasn't recieving a nominal fee for my services. But I don't like sponges and I have no patience for them.

there are two outcomes:
1. the ****** will lose interest once he realizes how much money he'll have to spend to get himself and his son adequately familiar with the rifle, and neither will ever become gunnys.
2. the kid will lose interest once he bruises his shoulder from recoil. i'm serious, this kid is complete wuss. he's so wuss, nerds make fun of him. :D

In answer to the question of "whats worse?" I would have to say that an anti that wants a gun for his kid is worse. Can you say hypocrite? He is worse than those "Mah thuddy-thuddy aint no ass-sult weepon, whaddaya need dat der black rifle for boy?" hunters.

I feel sorry for the kid.

If you must take them out shooting, make pops shoot the rifle first, and tell him to hold the butt of the gun away from his shoulder, you know, to minimize felt recoil... :what: :D

He sounds like a weiner.

he aint going shooting with me!!! not unless i have a full suit of body armor and three layers of trauma plates ducttaped to my body!

question. i suppose i could google it, but i'd rather turn to this group of geniuses. :D is there a cartridge 22-270?

Boss: "What gun'd you suggest for black bear? Oh, and my wuss kid has to shoot it."

Me: "Well, y'see, there's this real nice gun outta Sako, they call it the TRG-42. I'd recommend the one in .338 Lapua Magnum."

Boss: "Is it expensive?"

Me: "Yeah, but it's SOOO good, that if you don't like it, I'll give you half what you paid for it to take it off'n your hands so you don't have to deal with it. Deal?"

Boss: "Well...alright"

Me (in my head): "Schmuck"

Tell your boss his son should stay away from guns just like his dad. Then hand the kid a doll.

Actually, this may be the best plan anyone has come up with yet.

Ask your boss to let you direct hin correctly.

Maybe have him pick himself a 22 and 1k rounds to a range and have you do the same with his boy.
Take the boy to a different range.

yeah, considering all guns lose 75% of their value once they are fired, right? hehehe
same applies to scopes too?

Have him get the .308, and maybe you'll get yourself a .308 on the cheap in a few months....
ooooooh, oooooooh, great idea. WA should have some high $ .308 in the shop. Gotta start the boy out with the best, right? After a range trip or two, you can offer to help him "cut his loss". and still be his pal. :p

hehehe a 22-270 would just be a 22/06, weird wildcat but people have made all kinds. That would be a bit of a wake up call for a new shooter. If the kid could hold up for a few shots it might thump the wuss out of him.

"...the kid is thin as a waif, maybe weighs 90 lbs..." And? If the kid wants to go shooting, take him. His size means nothing. (I had small statured teenage kids shooting 12 lb. C1A1's with IVI ball ammo with no fuss.) Neither does what his da likes or doesn't like.
You have the opportunity to help a kid get into hunting and shooting. Never mind daddy or anything else. Take the kid, without daddy, to a range with a .22 just to see if the kid wants to shoot. If he does, great. If not so what? Under no circumstances should you let any kid shoot a rifle he doesn't know about. It ain't about you or your boss. It's about the kid. Teach the kid the same way you would anybody else.
