What's wrong with the new Marlins?

So I've been thinking about getting a .30-30 lever, mostly for giggles. I just read multiple posts in another thread that you should avoid any newly made Marlins. What changed that made their quality go down hill? As always, thanks for you insights.

Remington bought Marlin in 2007 and earlier this year canned all of the Marlin employees and moved the mfg facility from North Haven to Ilion, NY where their other mfg is done. The new products are rife with quality issues (missing parts, parts installed incorrectly, poor fit and finish, etc., etc., etc.). They have actually halted production on the lever action models for the rest of this year while they claim to be addressing those issues. Long-time Marlin owners (myself included) are staying away from the new mfg models like the plague. Buy an older previously used Marlin and you will probably save yourself a lot of grief and disappointment.

Marlin is now part of the Freedom Group, a holding company which owns Remington, Marlin, DPMS, Bushmaster, and a number of other gun makers. Freedom Group is a subsidiary of Cerberus Capital Management, a private equity firm (read: hedge fund) notorious for acquiring companies and attempting to cut their way to greater profitability. If that doesn't work, they strip and flip. The collapse of Marlin and Remington quality can be traced directly to Cerberus' philosophy: cheapen the product, raise the price, and hope no one notices until they've made a buck and moved on. Sadly, Marlin and Remington are two more companies doomed to destruction by these corporate scoundrels.

If the name Cerberus sounds familiar, it's because their most famous failure was their ownership of Chrysler.

I advise you to avoid anything with the Cerberus taint.
