What's your arsenal's "sporting purpose" rating?

GAME OFF.

Commissar Gribb,
You might consider easing up a little bit. I believe this is just a "fun" thread and should not be taken too seriously.

Your comment about Police has no reason to be in this thread, IMHO.

GAME ON.

i supose i would be a 1-2. my only full auto is an issued ump-40. im guessing it counts although it does not belong to me, i keep it w/me, not at the armory. my walther p22 has a silencer attachment but i have yet to get the stamp.

Because I live in California I don’t own any eeeevil weaponry, so I must be pushing an 8+. You mentioned bayonets, I’ve got one on each SKS, BUT, no detachable mags (verboten here) and the grenade launcher on the Yugo has been neutered.

I’ve got a Savage 10FP with a mildot scope, which could arguably drag the number lower, and some milsurps, but they’re C&R so they shouldn’t count.

Everything is limited to 10rd mags, that should help since no honest man needs any more than 10 rds.

I think I’m easily the winner.

Funny thing... a sporting lady doesn't have anything to do with a sporting arm.

Someone on the supreme court needs to explain that to me.

Strangely... I think my humble collection of 2 bb guns and a slingshot doesn't even rate on this scale.

:neener:

Every long gun in my safe is Black so I have to be atleast at a 3 or so

I really only have 2 hunting rifles, 1 30-30 Marlin and 1 Mossy 500 Trophy (rifled shotgun).

 The rest are semi auto, with plenty of high caps!

4.3846 on the MachIV scale. The Colt SAA and the 870 trap gun brought me down. I also only counted one SKS as duplicates don't count as far as I understand. Anybody wanna buy a SAA? Gotta get my rating back down! :D

S/F

Farnham

I have only a .45 hk USP-T, what would my rating be? I will have a supressor to go with it shortly, any idea what the rating on the pair would be? :D

jeez! is a guy allowed to make a joke? :what:

hehe

we need to come up with a system for political correctness scoring.

everyone starts with 100% because not having a gun is the most PC you can get.

If you refuse to be near guns and move to DC to "get away from them", you can add 300% to your score

for every 3 break- open single shot rifles and/or shotguns you have, subtract 10%.

for every 2 PC semi autos long guns you have (trap guns, autoloading hunting rifles, semi .22s etc..) subtract15%

battle rifles (IE: FALs, CETMEs, M14s, Saiga rifles in .308, etc) subtract 20% per rifle.

now the fun stuff

Anything that can be erroneously called one of the following:

M16
AK47
Tec 9
Uzi
Street Sweeper

subtract 30% per rifle

and...

handguns! almost forgot

10% per revolver unless it's a magnum because everyone knows that magnums can blow through 2 car doors and blow up a truck full of babies.
15% per magnums

20% for autos
25% if it's a glock
30% if it's a deagle
40% if you have "dual deagles"

now my system isn't complete yet so give me some slack.

I project my score at...

-135%

I must protest the rating of this gun. Just because it has been adopted by the Kerry hunting crowd does not make it a sporting gun. It's as military as it gets. This ain't no primary Bambi slayer.

maybe the mauser would get a better rating if yours had the optional rifle grenade attached to the front ;)

3.807

My assumptions - Albanian SKS vs Yugo SKS

Albanian gets a 3 for being a semi-auto military rifle.
Yugo gets a 2.25 for having a grenade launcher plus above reason.

Value for milsurp bolt actions - 4

All of mine are actual designs that saw combat and were state of the art at the time. Plus they all have bayonets.

10/22 - 10

Even though its a semi auto, almost everbody has a 10/22. It is one of the most unoffensive guns around. Walmart sells it.

"Assault Weapons"

Pre-ban condition 1.0
Post-ban condition 1.5

Handguns

Guns with night sights designed for carry - 1.0-2.5 (no sporting purpose, only defensive)
Snubs - 3 (once again, defensive purposes)
Military surplus - 1.5 - 3.0 (depends on age. I used a TT-33 at 3.0 but put Makarovs at 2.5 because a lot of people still carry them today)

Let me know if anyone thinks my values are incorrect. I will adjust accordingly. :D

Also, I think full autos should be placed in with a value of 0 - .5.

This falls into a strange area,

Let someone come to my home with bad things on their mind and they will find out about the dual purpose nature of all sporting arms, war rifles and shotguns.
Due to the fact that I am practiced in the use of all of my weapons for hunting and combat I have to ask, Can you be a 1 if you have no automatics or war surp. type weapons based on the skill and training of the shooter? Or is it all reliant on the type of gun?
Are you basing your ratings solely on the type of gun?
Wow that seems a bit narrow in scope.

Commissar Gribb,

My apologies. I am usually good at picking up on jokes and sarcasm. Your post had seemed so out of place I missed the joke. I guess I was in too serious a mood at the time.

Please have a preferred beverage on me. :)

As punishment for my lack of sense of humor, I will now go spend 5 minutes over at the DU. This way I will be refreshed on identifying truly angry posts.

......Maybe 4 min will be enough. How 'bout we say 2 min?

......Can I just bring up the home page and leave?

Um, lets say you have 2 preferred beverages on me and we call it even? :D

Amusing concept.

I'd say my collection's in the 5-6 range. True, I've a black double-stack 9mm pistol (4.0) and a pretty gnarly black 18" 870 with some taktikal accessories (3.0). But this is offset by not one but two innocent Marlin .22s, a .357 lever gun, a Buck Mark, and a whole mess of double action revolvers, mostly belt holster sized or larger.

No one who owns a .357 or 30-30 lever gun should be able to come in below 2 or 3 on the scale unless they've got a lot of Class III goodies in the safe.

I only own," Non-Sporting" firearms(ie semi-handguns/semi-rifles with large mags)

No NFA firearms, items, or DD, but you just wait 'till I win the lottery. Stupid NFA :banghead: , so I guess I am a solid 2.0 :neener: ...

Wow that seems a bit narrow in scope.

As has been said, this is just a "for fun" thread, as to create a truly accurate "combat effective arsenal" scale would have to encompass so many more details. Heck, my 700 BDL .375 Ultra mag is going to be more much more effective on someone in the cover of a vehilce (especially at range) than an AK would. But how long would it take us to get even an approximate rating, having to describe dozens or hundreds of individual scenarios and evaluate each weapon accordingly?

The only conclusions one might actually be able to draw from this is that some folks prefer to keep only EBR's, etc, while others such as myself have a bit of everything for innumerable reasons, not the least of which is colleting.

I'll have a Sprite, please

I gave myself," extra credit", in the non-sporting firearms category, for the MP-AR-15pistol(kind of like a PDW), and my Glock 23 pistol's full-cap mags  ...

I'd be curious to know how Ms. Feinstein & Co. would rate my collection. In addition to machineguns and suppressors, I have almost every firearm listed by name in the 1994 Assault Weapon ban. However, I also have at least one long gun used by each nation participating in World War II and am working on getting the matching handguns. I have several turn of the century Mausers, a dozen or so shotguns, a dozen or so wunder-nines, the obligitory Ruger single actions and a few black powder replicas.

Maybe everything offsets each other and I score a perfect -0-. :)
