What's your best gun trade you've made?

I try to not get rid of firearms once I have them, but I have made 2 trades in my life: one about 10 years ago, and one about 7 months ago.

The one I made long ago was a Beretta Stainless .380 for a new Ruger M77 .22 Hornet. That's one I shouldn't have done; I should've just bought the rifle...

The recent trade was a crappy Ruger Millenium 9mm & $100 for a FN Hi-Power Compact. That one I doubt I will ever regret; that Millenium was the worst shooting gun I have ever shot (let alone owned). I will never buy a hamerless/double action again.

A ruger KP-90 for a NIB looking CZ-75B with
the OD frame.T then traded the CZ for a NIB
looking 686-3,this all started with that 250
dollar ruger.

traded a POS forged 92 saddle ring carbine, (it wasn't even a good forgery) with a dark bore and wood that looked like the previous owner had used steel wool made out of barb wire, (I only bought it because the previous owner had two pre 64 model 70's in 300 savage and 257 robt's that I would have killed for and it was a package deal) for a Beretta EELL 20 gauge w/ a set of 28 gauge barrels and a hard fitted case. The guy who had it was a phase of a moment kind of guy who after finding out he was pretty lousy at shotgunning, decided that riding his horse and dressing up like a cowboy was something he figured he could do. He was at a CASS shoot and someone said "buy a 92 saddle ring carbine" so that is what he was doing. I told him straight up that it was a forgery but he did not care. I traded a gun I would have sold for $300 for a $5500 or so shotgun. Worked for me.

Traded a very poor SSA parts gun for a correct 1886 in 45-90. Found a Henry at a gun show, almost traded him a decent Webley and Scott double for that gun till some A**h*** grabbed the gun and started making noises.
I hope that AH roasts for eternity. The Henry had a 2 digit serial number and it was maybe 90% finish. I saw a 3 digit in less condition go for 65K and I almost got it 3 or 4k. As soon as the other guy started drooling the seller pulled the gun and refused to talk anymore, he said it had just walked into his store the week before, all he knew was shotguns.

Traded $3000 for 12 of a 13 gun collection. Included a model 92 Winchester, that I was offered $1250, before I got out of the guys yard, a like new Colt Python, NIB S&W model 28, cherry Browning light 5, .264 mag, 3 30-06s, Marlin 39A, Ruger single six convertiible, a .243, and a 9mm carbine. The one I didn't buy was another Browning shotgun. I didn't know enough about the various grades, to guess value. I got home, and checked it out. I should have bought ot too! Oh well. IMHO, trading guns with a dealer is a fools game. He/she ain't it!!!

Among my better trades were a well used Icon E paintball gun ($120 new) for a Matching numbers Norinco SKS. The $550 NIB A-5 light 12 wasent bad either, but on that gun, i diddent really shoot it well, Ended up trading it for a 3-1/2" Gold Hunter, talk about making out like a bandit.

Traded my Smith & Wesson 4043 (former unissued LEO gun) w/ night sights for a brand spanking new Walther P99 AS and a little cash. Best trade I've had.

Traded an NAA Guardian with a couple holsters and extended mags for a Glock 23 with 50 rounds through it. Didn't exactly make out like a bandit, but it's a trade I've never regretted.

I traded a well used Dan Wesson .44 mag revolver (I still have 2 of these, in like new condition) for a BRAND NEW never fired Smith & Wesson 637 .38, and a LNIB Smith & Wesson 4006, and about 1200 rounds of ammo...

I also once traded a Ruger Mod 77 youth rifle in .243 Win, (kept the Swarovski scope that was on it) for a pre-'64 Win Mod 94...

I traded 45 minutes worth of labor (computer work) for this Kimber Raptor II

Years ago I started an "upgrade" like this:

I had a BHP MkIII 9mm that was a good pistol, but a little prone to rust on the backstrap, but I still liked it quite well...but...DSA had just started marketing their SA58's, and their medium chrome-moly rifle was my huckleberry...So:

I traded the BHP for a MAC 10 open bolt semi with accessories, straight up. From a business acquaintance of good integrity.

At the next gunshow, I sold that MAC 10 to a classIII manufacturer (easy conversion for him, and a moneymaker), and more than doubled my money. Then, I confiscated a few weeks of overtime pay to add to the kitty, and...voila, about 3 months total time, I was holding that DSA FAL!!

Man, was that MAC10 .45 cal a real POS.

A few years later, I received another, nicer (but still slightly used) BHP as a Christmas present, and I still have that pistol.

It all worked out well enough, I'd say... -FNR.

Another:

Years before that...I was shooting my minty Colt Govt .380 and Ruger MkII 5" heavy barrel at an indoor gun range. After finishing up, I walked back into the showroom to look at the eye candy in stock...

Spied a 99% HK93 rifle with slide stock on a rack. Heckuva lot better than the Mini14 at home!!! Hmmm...better strike quick....

Dealer gained the .380 and the Ruger MkII. I walked away with the 93 and 4 mags in a used soft case. No funds changed hands. Lawdy I wish that I still had that 93 today, but that's another story... -FNR.

I traded an old & abused S&W 586 that I bought used for a model 19 :D :D I got lucky on that one...and you know, that other guy is really happy w/ his 586 so I guess we both made out!

Barter Technique

I have a friend that always buys guns. He carries two or three, hundred dollar bills in his billfold. He lets the other guy set the price and if it is a good price he will buy the gun. He tells the person that he has 30 days to reclaim the weapon for a small service charge (20 to 40 dollars) or he will sell the weapon. After 30 days he will sell it back but at the fair market price. He told me that he has never had anyone claim to be cheated and he always has new and interesting weapons to shoot. BTW he always carries concealed as he is a reserve deputy sheriff. He showed me the first non military Baretta 92F I saw. Paid $300 and sold it for $500. He said he averages one or two such transactions a month.

I got a LNIB Silver Chrome (factory finish), Browning Hi Power in 9MM for a Texas made High Standard Victor.

I traded a MII Ruger 22 for a Savage 22/410 O/U so I could trade it for a Winchester Model 12 12Ga. made about 1937, it was in 95% condition, still have it and won't part with it.:)

Ive done so so

My first trade was a rem 597 for a sks straight across.
Rem 597 was a jamamatic.
I traded ruger 44mag for Marlin 35rem+renegade .45call muzzeloader+Mossberg 500.
I realy wasnt interested in the 44mag.
Then the marlin + the renegade got me a new
S&W,M&P.
A friend was selling his Colt AR15 24" stainless H-bar for 900
I put 100 dollars down, found a stainless kimber that he liked paid 500 for it used it as a 700 dollar payment, 100dollars later it was mine.
The latest deal i came across was a Rem m700 300 win mag new in box 500,
some body bought it put two rounds through it and decided it kicked to much,
It is fairly light but i have plans hogue stock and posible muzzle break.

The worst trade was to my sister a ruger 1022 for a pair of pistol grips for my357 vaquero prolly a 200 dollar loss she realy wanted it!

Best Trade

Back about 1976 I traded an S&W semi-auto (not one of their best) + $50.00cash for a little used Colt Python .357Mag, Blue, 4 inch (no box or papers). Still have that Python. Best buy was very recent-- an S&W Model 14 (dob about 1972) in pristine condition for $250.00 cash (also no box/papers). This happened only days after I traded 3 replacable firearms (one being an Uberti Cattleman in SS) for another pristine S&W Model 27-3, Blue, 3.5 inch. One heck of a month!!!:)

I traded a Glock 26 for a Glock 30 last year.

Love my Glock 30!

Of course, my wife got mad at me for trading her favorite gun (she never told me that!) so we went out and bought a new G26 for her.

Sheesh!

Glock 21 for a custom Redhawk.

Many years ago I traded a standard Glock 21 for a custom Redhawk with a 4" barrel, magnaporting and a slick trigger job. It was at a local gun shop. The owner was a dentist who fished a lot in Alska and decided the .44 was not enough for the bears he was encountering. He wanted to buy a Freedom Arms 454 but also wanted a nice service pistol.

I loved that Redhawk. When I was layed off years ago for three months I had to sell off several guns to pay bills and sadly had to let it go.

Through some bartering and trading I swapped a Ruger 10-22 and $150 for three Contender pistols. Sold two. Ended up $50 ahead and still have one of the Contenders.

Next door neighbor had 4 shotguns. He's not really a shooter, so I bought them all for $125. Old Rem 1100 with a deer barrel and three single shots. Sold one and gave the others to a friend who did $450 worth of A/C work on my house.
