What's Your Excuse?

If there's no wife to complain or kids to support, the only excuse you need is, "I could afford it, and I liked it." It's like single (and a lot of married) women buying shoes and clothes IMHO. They'd be offended if you asked them for their excuse for buying whatever.

If someone asks your excuse be offended!

Due to a low income and needing to feed what guns i already have i do need an "excuse" to purchase any new gun, Rather i call it "justify its need".
But thats just me and i don't hold it against anyone else who can buy what they want, when they want.

Id love an AK47 or a .308 AR but i have not one use for either except for throwing lead down range. But to do so would take away range time and ammo needs from my ccw guns that i need to practice with.

But hopefully ill be able to at least buy an AK at a good price for when the world goes nuts one day. I just couldn't shoot it much.

Ive even sold off my .22lr pistol and rifle as i was getting bored at the range with them and the ammo costs were climbing along with my skills. $6 for a box of 50 .22lr is no longer cheap enjoyment.

I own 4 guns that i have justified.
1. Mossberg 500SPX for home defense.
2. 5" 1911 in .45acp my cool weather OWB main gun.
3. 3.5" 1911 in .45acp my warm weather IWB main gun.
4. Kahr MK9 9mm as a back pocket bug or as a main gun when i don't have time to holster a 1911 up.
I do feel 3 guns for ccw is the most effective way to always carry the largest caliber i can when possible. Granted the MK9 could do everything, But i do allow some enjoyment and frivolity at times.

Ive already justified replacing the 500SPX with the new Kelt-tec KSG as that is the coolest gun ive seen in a long time. But i doubt sell the Mossy as my house could use a second SG on the lower level.

Im highly interested in the new Kimber SOLO, Just cant justify it yet but since its 9mm it will be alot easier.

And with the new glut of small 9mm's thats gonna be hitting the market im hoping to pick up another used Sig P238 as i miss the one i sold. Its a 1911 thing on this gun i think.

So you can see when it comes down to i do have to justify every purchase, But i do have dreams of not having to do that all the time.

A similar situation that I had a long time ago with regard to a Winchester Model 70 in .338 Win Mag. I've regretted not buying that rifle ever since!
I say if you feel that strongly about it, then buy it as long as you can afford it. You might regret passing it up later.

You've managed to justify a 17, 204 and 3 different 22's; a .243, 25-06 and a 257 wm; as well as 2 rifles in the 7mmish category. Duh, you need a .30 cal rifle or 3. I think that you need a 30-30, a 30-06 and the 300mag.

Don't forget a 7.62x39!

You've got a mess of slow-burning powder you want to get rid of, don't you?

I look at firearm purchases like I look at tool purchases. If it does something different, or makes life easier, I buy it.

Thats probably why I can't weld, but have both a welder and a plasma cutter!

I just had surgery on my ear, (Otoscelros) and i'm still worrying about firing my 30,06 for the first time after said surgery. I just happened to mention to the wife i NEED a .222. She replied that the lower recoil would be better for my ear, reducing the chance of the implant coming loose.
Quite surprised i realised she had given me the ultimate excuse!
Medicinal firearms:D

I can't believe that nobody has come up with the Ultimate excuse. EVERYBODY knows that upstate New York has very large zombies which REQUIRE at least a 30 cal to stop them. There that should do it.

DONT SHOOT THEM!
They are just steroid fed crack heads the Gov. is testing out a way to get rid of residents of NJ!

No excuse needed; I have a S&W 647 .17 HMR revolver.

Among other odd things I've acquired along the way, I have a set of Type 2 Python grips with nickel hardware and I've never owned a nickeled Python. I don't need no stinking excuses.

Every evil gun I can lock in my safe is one that can't commit a crime. Just tell yourself you're doing it for the children. Works for me.

Seriously, I'm 57 years old. The end of my life is closer than the beginning. I don't regret anything I've done nearly as much as I regret the things I haven't. I wanted a Colt Python for 30 years before I finally got one for my 50th birthday. It is such a joy to shoot I want to kick myself for not getting one years ago. If you want it, get it.
