What's your favorite 10mm bullet

Depends on how hard I'm driving the bullets.

I'm a big fan of bonded gold dots, but at higher velocities (like Kevin Underwood likes to load his), I think the XTPs are better performers.

I think the optimum loading for the 10mm is the 180 grain XTP at 1300 ft per second. The Gold Dots seem to do better at slower speeds.

After shooting about everything I could get my hands on to see what was going to work and not, I settled on two 180gr bullets. The Gold Dot and the Winchester bulk JHP's.

I can pretty easily hit 1300+ with my 7" barrel and I have had no issues what so ever with the GD's not performing well or being very accurate. The Win bulk bullets shoot just as well and actually hold up very well even at the higher velocities. They seem to have a bit thicker jacket on them than most other JHP's. I have hunted with them both for quite a few years using them on feral hogs up in the brush and had no issues with them doing what they are supposed to do. In most outings if I am doing my part, they will both hold right around 2" or less out to 50yds.

I realize that most of the bulk bullets are nowhere to be found right now, but if you come across a decent supply of them, you might give some a go.

For practice any of the 180 Grain .400-.401 diameter jacketed or plated flat point bullets will work in the 10mm, just be careful on driving them too fast. Some brands have velocity limits on their bullets to prevent excessive fouling and poor accuracy.

165-180gr plated for cheap plinking. Gotta watch the velocity though on the plated bullets.

This is out of my G20. I currently have loaded 200gr XTP at 1150fps via chrono using Longshot.

It would seem that if you got an aftermarket barrel with regular lands and grooves, you would soon save enough shooting plated bullets to pay for it. I've got a Lone Wolf "tactical" length on my Mod. 20, shoots good... sticks out about 3/4 inch.

The Sierra 10MM lineup from 135gr to 180grs work just fine in all my 10MM pistols.
The old Bull-X cast bullets also have shot up a storm in the same 10MM pistols out to 200 meters. I suspect all the commercial cast bullets from the same style molds that Bull-X used will do just fine also when that need arises.
They made a 175grSWC 10MM cast bullet that is/was just a jewel in any .40 bore including my 38-40 sixguns.

For JHP use, the XTP lineup holds up pretty well to the added velocity. 180gr Gold Dots don't need to go past 1200-1250 (impact vel) or they start to get over worked. I like to run the 180gr XTP to around 1300-1350 fps in a 6" .40 S&W, or the 200gr XTP to around 1200-1250 fps in the same rig (Hornady rates the 200gr XTP for 1250 fps, the 180gr to 1450, but I think that's a bit much).

For hardcast, I LOVE the Beartooth 200gr WFNGC, and typically load it for whatever is needed. Even at 1000 fps it will punch through any deer or pig, and too fast (~1300 fps) it starts to lead up a little bit from what I've seen, so I like to keep it around 1100-1200 fps. Faster isn't going to kill any deader.

horsemen61, I recently handled a G20 SF (Short Frame) and the grip was just slightly longer/larger than the G22 and much more comfortable fit for my hand than the regular G20. I think it may become my early birthday gift.

I planned on using Montana Gold FMJ/JHP and plated bullets for practice and Gold Dot/Golden Saber as backup defensive ammo bullets. For woods carry against thicker skinned animals, I am thinking 180/200 gr lead FP/SWC loads.

Since 40S&W brass is plentiful, I am thinking of loading 40S&W at 10mm lengths to shoot in the G20 until I get a 40S&W barrel from KKM/Lone Wolf that will be more "lead bullet friendly".

I have been shooting the Xtremes and have no problem with them. They do have a maximum velocity, but they are very popular with our local shooters in USPSA and IDPA.

I've had good luck with Xtreme 180's, Speer Gold Dot 180's, Montana Gold 180 JHP's, and even some Missouri Bullet Company 155 LSWC's (but I'm not running a Glock, so I can shoot lead without a lot of worry).

In fact, pretty much everything I've tried has worked fairly well, although if you get a RN profile, you may have to put so much of the bullet back into the case that your max performance is limited with some powders. Flat noses and HPs may be slightly better.
