I really like the look of wood grips, especially exotic ones by Esmeralda , but for serious use, I usualy lean toward G-10

These are my newest from VZ

I was just going to mention Esmerelda. She has got some absolutely beautiful grips for sale.

VZ is hard to beat. Reasonably priced for the quality and several colors and a couple styles to choose from.

They're cheap, but Ajax grips are sometimes the ticket on a work gun. They look decent, last a long time and don't break the bank.

Personally, I have never, at all, ever, been a fan of the Hogue or Pachmayr grips. They change the shape of the handgun grip, the way it fits the hand. The 1911 fits my hands very well as-is, so fooling with that is nonsense.

If it doesn't fit your hand, the options are to buy grips that change the fit or buy a handgun that actually fits your hands.

Agreed... I personally like Simonich Gunners from VZ. Far from pretty, but aggressive to keep the gun in place no matter how much sweat, dirt, etc. get in the mix...

I like G10 grips. Have tried all types, but have G10's on all mine.

Here are the latest. VZ Aliens, sand, on a new Colt Rail gun .45acp

They ain't the prettiest grips, but I really like the way Hogue rubber grips with palm swells fit my hand. Thin up top around the thumb and trigger finger, with a perfectly proportioned bulge to fit the hollow of my palm. These are the separate grip panel style, not the one-piece wrap-around with finger grooves.

Exactly the same for me. I've tried thin and standard grips made out of aluminum, wood, and rubber, with and without finger grooves, but the Hogues with the palm swell are the best for me.

Grips is grips when it comes to the 1911.
I have a set of Pachmayers on a Target 1911 like the ones in post #22
My other 1911s wear plastic or wood standard grip panels.

Grip panels for 1911s seem to be the added fluff now in place of engraving.

The one thing I really don't like on 1911 grips is the new designs that cover the mainspring housing pin.

Sarge's grips, Elite, they are the best I have found. In particular his "handler" grips, which are larger "not thicker" than normal, they cover the 1911 screw in the frame and almost go to the edge,
His hundreds of different grips are just beautiful from Ivory to marbleized wood, take a look at, www.thefinergrain.com

I like the Hogue rubber wrap around one with the finger grooves that I put on mine.

Now I just need to find one that fits the RIA double stack 1911 I have on the way. Supposedly grips made for a para P14 are very close, but the screws are just a bit off. Hogue lists one for the P14, but not for the RIA.

I have an RIA double stack (in my case .22 TCM/9mm) with the Hogue wrap around for a P14 installed. Works fine, looks meh (though better than the cheap plastic that came on my RIA). The upper grip screw hole is slightly misplaced relative to the RIA frame leaving you with a crescent shaped gap on one side of the screw. Purely cosmetic but it could bug a person.

It is a literal handful for my borderline medium/large hands...as in it's the biggest I would ever go on a pistol and feels kinda weird since I am used to wrapping my hands further around the frame, but it is comfortable.

Using factory woods on my Remington right now. Picked up a pair of Magpuls just to try the black on stainless thing. Not impressed even for the $11 I paid. Not very grippy, compared to wood, and look kind of tacky with the magpul logo plastered over the whole thing. Finish isn't amazing - Large molding marks on the bottoms. They were cheap but I'm back to factorys for now.. I did really like the large cut out for reaching the magazine, It worked great for me. However I'm more interested in grip for shooting. Ideally I would like to find a good pair in wood with a decent thumb cut for a fair price.. Still looking

That sounds like the sort of thing I could live with and think no big deal of it.

There's another version of their double stack pistol that comes with the grip I want on it. http://www.slickguns.com/sites/default/files/5156747320060.jpg Actually, with the beavertail and different hammer on it as well, I already wish I'd just ordered that model instead of the one I've got coming.

I wonder who makes the grip that comes standard on that model, and if I can buy one from there?

My preference when it comes to good looking grips that are still functional are stags. For a working gun I like checkered wood but have found the Alumagrips work really well. Recently picked up a Springfield Ultra Carry that came with VZs on it and they seem pretty nice. Also, just got a set of the new Magpuls but I haven't shot the gun with them on it yet, not sure I like where the cut out is positioned.

I have RAASCO Phenolic / Linen grips with their Tactical Fluted grooves. It's hard to describe how good they feel. Imagine something that has the tactile feel of suede, but is hard as nails.
