Just waned some votes. Would be interesting to me. And I'm sure many others. I' m a huge fan of the M1 and everyone who used it to make the world a better place. That is the #1 to me. Then there's number 2. lets face it the AK works. No matter what it works. Sand water mud, what ever you throw at it it works. That would be the top 2 to me. I care nothing about the 5.56 round being used today . From what i read the most feared troops are using shotguns or AK's. If you ask me we are over gunned. Whats your opinion?

Of all my military rifles, the M1 Garand is the best shooter. I am saying that straight out of the box with no after market tweeks. I love my M1.

Uh, I haven't heard of anyone outside contractors and Iraqi military/police using AKs in Iraq.
My favorite battle implement?
Well, let's start with a black Bushmaster ACR with rail handguard. Extend the magwell by a couple of millimeters. Then take 6.8 SPC, and add a millimeter or two to the case, and maybe 15-20 grains to the bullet and actually streamline the thing. Put them in PMags (likewise adjusted). Chamber said rifle for said cartridge.
Then make the ACR's lower out of carbon fiber and allow it to accept AR pistol grips, especially the SAW kind. Uhhh... then put an ACE folding stock on it.
Bam! Nolo's favorite combat rifle!

Can't help it, I'm fond of my Saiga conversion. It's my friend's fault, he bought an Arsenal AK 4 years ago and I wanted an AK ever since.

Great minds think alike...

You did say "weapon" right? Not rifle? Then this is my choice if I'm going into bad guy land.

I guess I'd feel safe carrying about anything with one of them watching my back. :)

Jimmie, does the term Stinger come to mind? Boys go to war in aircraft. Men go in tanks and ships. Snicker.
"...with one of them watching my back..." Gotta agree with that though. Got into a Spectre Ship, long ago, at an air show. Asked the crewman if the aircraft moved sideways under the recoil of the 105. "Yep.", says he.
"...the most feared troops are..." The most feared troopies are snipers. Shotguns are illegal under the rules of land warfare.
There's no question that the AK is the most reliable military rifle. However, its accuracy leaves a lot to be desired. It was made to be issued to illiterate conscripts who got minimal training.
The M1 rifle is a first generation semi-auto battle rifle. Good, but heavy and it has a lot of internal parts. The M14 was a second generation battle rifle that was adopted for political reasons and lasted as the general issue rifle for the shortest period of any U.S. military rifle. Despite the current usage, it's not the standard issue rifle.
The FAL beat the M14, hands down, in all the U.S military tests except accuracy. In all its variations, it has served longer, in more countries and terrains than any U.S. made rifle.
After all that, if the excrement ever hits the rotary air mover, I'm reaching for my M1 Carbine and my Inglis BHP(CF mags hold 14) as a back up. The Carbine is light, handy and accurate with my 110 grain HP handloads. Ball will do in a pinch. I'll have far too much to deal with to be lugging a heavy M1 and ammo around. The 870 won't be far away though. Neither will the '03A4.

My M-1 or my M1917 Enfield. With either on of these, I can get one of those new fangled assault weapons.

"...Which rules are those????..." Geneva or The Hague Conventions. I can never remember which one. The most recent rule outlawed Napalm.
"...Which were you?..." Affiliated with boots and saddles. Armoured Recce.
I was so far in reserve I had to buy my own CF combats. The adage was the men of the Army and Navy and the boys of the Air Force. Mind you, we called the Navy guys 'Boat people' too.

"Boys go to war in aircraft. Men go in tanks and ships." Thats just sad. You need to think of the thousands of boys and men that went to war and gave their life for you. Most of them were just boys and went with nothing but a rifle and the shirt on their back. There have been many "boys" that lost their life in aircraft, and I think you should show some respect. This is rifle country so lets please keep the discussion to rifles.

Do you still concider them boys when they get shot down and are alone behind enemy lines? Many Many Many pilots have been POW's

....Oh and my vote goes for US Rifle Caliber .30 M1 : The Garand :D
