I read threads like this and I become really confused. You guys must live in some really rough neighborhoods or something, because where I live, I use my rifles for a casual day at the range plinking clays on the berm, or maybe a 3 gun competition, or even hunting. The neighbors are really friendly, and kids run about in the streets laughing and riding bikes sometimes down to the local park to ride the merry go round and such...

There is the issue of home defense, true enough, but that seems to be a pretty remote consideration in these threads. Do you guys "patrol" regularly? Engage "combatants" at 300 plus meter distances? Is this here in the US or abroad?

Well, for plinking clays on the berm I like my PTR91. It is pretty much overkill for coyotes, but it gets the job done, although it is a bit heavy.

What, sanity on an internet forum? I think most adult males still want to play soldier like when they where kids. With that said I think an M4 with grenade launcher would be a good start.

There have been many "boys" that lost their life in aircraft, and I think you should show some respect.

X2. More than 1/3 of the aircrew that flew over Europe in WWII did not return and that doesn't include the POW's. It took guts to fly over places where people shoot at you.

"...Which rules are those????..." Geneva or The Hague Conventions. I can never remember which one. The most recent rule outlawed Napalm.
Please cite your source for Hague or Geneva outlawing shotguns in land warfare. (Hint: You can't.)

I'll help. Here's Hague and here's Geneva.

I'm with the original poster, the M1 Garand is far and away my favorite Personal Battle Weapon.
Would I choose one in todays world?
Only if it was the only choice available.

I would choose an M14 if I could ride in a vehicle and pack all my ammo that way.

I would choose an M16A4 if I had to pack the ammo on my person.

I would choose a G3 and deal with packing the ammo if I was stuck in some godforsaken backwater that was infested with people who wanted to kill me and animals who are large enough to try and eat me.

Boys go to war in aircraft. Men go in tanks and ships. Snicker.

Spoken like a true Ground Pounder......

Folks, the rivalry between ground and air forces is long and done with love for the most part. Don't get offended by it :)

This is me standing by something made to keep those poor tanks safe when things go bad. Tanks are not invincible.
Ground Support does not entail a cheerleading uniform. It takes rockets and guns to protect those poor bastards in metal meat cans on the ground.....

As to the topic, if I have to go to battle I want the Spad.....

why are shot guns illegal in combat?seems to me i just watched a video of a combat shotgun that the military had made, was full auto and had special missle type ammo that went off at the distance you programmed them to,was pretty awsome from the vid i watched

Texas Rifleman, Is that a P-47?
My favorite battle rifle is the FAL. Yeah it's alot of heavy ammo, but I love the stopping power.

The Douglas AD4 Skyraider is a nice plane.

My father in law maintained Corsairs, Hellcats and, Buffalos, Dauntless' and Helldivers and you could get him to go on for several hours by simply saying what was the corsair like?

The most dangerous weapon against your enemies should be between the ears of the commander and in the hearts of the troops.

float pilot got it...... best weapon is between the ears.... as for hardware I'll use any ol thing my enemy no longer has a use for, I don't get sentimental or fixated over any particular gun in battle... whatever is available will be what I'm using

Hahahaha, Inter-service rivalry hurts peoples feelings. Well guess what? Being on an Air Force base made me feel more like I was at some PC college than a military installation.

The only battle weapon i have ever held (and fired) is the AG3

So i guess, until further notice the AG3 is my favorite =)
