What's your favorite cheap hunting bullet for .308?

OK, so I decided to try a 165 grain Speer Spitzer Boattail from Midway at $27.50/box of 100 (bought 2 boxes, 1 for him and 1 for me) and 1 box of 100 Hornady Interlock 165 grain BTSP (for me) at $40/box with free shipping. So, $104 for 300 bullets to experiment with. Do y'all approve?
We do, the deer don't.
150gr Sierra game kings tend to get it done very well in my .308s. Flat based, cheap-ish, and effective.
I know lots of people rave about corlokts, but I haven’t been impressed with them. I’ll probably die with a box of them that I just can’t bring myself to load because they let me down a few times on deer. They are cheap, though, so maybe I’m just doing something wrong.
Generally I haven't seen a flat based game king, but if you're talking about the pro hunters, I wholeheartedly agree!

90% of the time when going with cup and core I use Nolser BTs.

On whitetails I've used them in 6mm/.243, 6.5x57, .260 Rem, .270 Win, .308Win, 30-06 and .300WM. I haven't had one yet not shoot to the rifles capabilities and I can usually get them to sub MOA. The effect on game has been very good, I've never lost an animal, nor required a 2nd shot. The only thing I try not to do is put them into a shoulder at the closer ranges.

Mt 2nd favorite cup and cores would be the Sierras, either Pro Hunter or Game Kings. I did use a .308 165 TGK in .300WM on a mule deer at slightly over 300yds a couple years ago and it worked about as well as can be expected.

I liked the 165 grain Sierra boattails in my 308. I hope find the same accuracy out of the Speers!

Years ago I found the Speer 165 BTSP to be an extremely accurate bullet for 30-06. I really like the bullet but its quite soft so not recommended for hotrodding in a magnum. It does a nice job dumping it's energy with MV at or below 2800fps.
Thats about as fast as im comfortable launching the speer btsp, even the 270 .375 are kinda squishy.

Yes, any of those will get the job done.

I'm going to be shooting them out of an 18.5" barreled AR, so I seriously doubt I'll get them that fast.

Good info to know, thanks for sharing.

When I used a 308 for deer, I had good luck with Winchester 150 grain power points factory ammo I bought at wally world. They were plenty accurate in the rifle I used them in, and had no issues dropping a deer. If these bullets are available, I couldn't imagine them being too pricey.

Maybe, but they're still more expensive than handloads and VERY likely less accurate, not to mention I'm not doing my buddy a favor to say "thank you for hooking me up" if I just go buy cheap factory ammo.

Think he meant just the component power point bullets.
Which are available from time to time, i used to buy alot of them as they usually shot fine and worked as well as the slightly more expensive speer and hornady.
The only issues I had with Winchester components were the 50gr varmint bullets i used in my .223 were inconsistent, and the extra few bucks was worth it.
