Anyone use H4895 w/ any 180g Nosler bullets in 308? The Nosler guide has data on IMR4895 but not H4895. I know they are not equivalent.

I have a bunch of H4895 and would prefer to use that but I can't find load data for Nosler bullets using that powder. When I try to extrapolate (on the theory that it's more about bullet weight) using Hodgdon reload center, Speer manual, etc, the variances are pretty big so I can't isolate a good number. I'm hoping to get more than 2400 fps with the 180g bullet.

Please don't recommend another powder. No offense intended but everyone has personal choices and I'm really trying to stick with H4895 if possible (I already have too many kinds of powder in my reloading center!).

Thanks in advance.

Aside from contacting Nosler for data, it is about bullet weight. The starting load that Hodgdon lists at 40gr, using Speer 180gr SP should be fine starting your Nosler 180gr.
H4895 is a favorite of mine, and is quite versatile. If you do a proper workup, I would think that you should get at least 2500fps safely. I do think that the 308 is a better round using 165gr bullets because the 180gr does encroach on the powder space a lot to fit the magazine.
Good luck.

Thanks. The difficulty I have is that if you look in the Speer and Hornady guides, you get much different data for 180gr bullets. Part of my concern too is that I sold my 308 and I'm loading these for my brother as a gift so I wouldn't be able to work up the load. I think you're right about the bullet weight as the primary factor but the guide books just don't seem to follow that logic too well.
