I don't own a BP Colt; but if I ever do, it will be a '60 Army. I've shot a '51 Navy several times, and it's much-vaunted "balance and handle" eludes me. The '60 "makes me a better shot". I know that's a subjective opinion, but in my case it's backed up by data that is "empirical" - meaning "I don't know why or how that happened, but I'm glad it did!"
Same thing happens when I compare the Python I once owned to my wife's S&W Model 13. "Something" makes the Smith put holes in the X more often.
Don't know how, don't know why, don't really care. If I EVER have to pick up a firearm in a 'tense moment'; I want it to do its job; like any other tool.

I was looking at an ASM, I think, 1860 brass frame. The barrel had SM Blackpowder only Made in Italy on the underside.
I never understood the brass framed 1860 pseudo-repro.
I gotta say, it felt really good in the hand.
It just wasn't worth $95.00 + tax with rust in the bore, chambers, and on the cylinder face.
Not, to me, anyway.

Had it been a steel frame in good shape, I'd have paid the $125.00 asking price.

Don't tell junkman. I'll never hear the end of it. ;)

The 51 Navy is a small gripped and heavy barreled piece. The 1860 Army is a big improvement on balance and the loading lever is superior. It's a pretty big revolver but not the monsters the Dragoons and Walkers were.

1860 Army.

I have a Colt Navy and a Pietta Army. Both are a lot of fun to shoot.

OK I'll make it short. I have the 51, and the 60, the Dragoon, and the Walker. My pick is the DRUM ROLL PLEASE, The 1861. Made by Uberti. One sweet revolver. If we had a second choice it would be the 1860.
