How far was it and what were you using? I havent hunted with rifles but with a what I have it was:

Shotgun. Remington 870 12 gauge/w slug: 122 yards on a 8 point in southern Indiana
Muzzleloader: CVA Kodiak .50 cal: 165 yards on a doe in Indiana.
and while I am at it... I will throw in my bow shot also:)
Bow: Merlin Hunters Quest: 35 yards on a 6 point(first deer I killed with a bow)

both performed well... although I doubt I would take the shotgun shot again...

what about you?

My longest shot is only 230 yards, Whitetail buck, through the lungs DRT, and that shot was in West Texas, where most people think the shots are long, but not always :).

Just my .02,
LeonCarr

No great distances, but the best shot I ever made was on a running Ohio whitetail deer at just a bit over 100-yards with a .58 caliber Zouave. He was full-tilt boogie and I was shooting from a sunken foundation of an old corn silo. I led him, squeezed and the trigger and hit him right behind his shoulder - he dropped like a rock, chin planted into the cornfield and skidded to a stop on his belly. The other odd thing was that I swear I saw the miniball glint in the sun as it headed downrange....

122 long steps. .35 Remington out of a Marlin .336, scoped with a Burris 2.5X

The closest one I've ever missed was at the unbelievable range of 27 yards. I shot under him with a scoped .243 that has always held MOA. Can anyone say "buck fever"?

i shot a button buck at right over 400 yards last year (knew the exact distance before i shot) the last day of season. would never take a shot like that agian, unless it was under similiar circumstances.

90% of my deer have been inside 100 yds.

525 yards w/ .257 Wea. Mag. in a Mark V Deluxe with Leupold 3.5-10X40 AO in Leupold Dual Dovtail bases/rings.

The longest in the last 5 years, since the advent of affordable rangefinders, 186 yards. 7x57 Mauser, 173 gr.'s through both front shoulders.

Before rangefinders I used to make lots of 250 yard + shots. LOL

175ish yards

Marlin 39A

Stingers

Doe

Back of the head

Lights out

Squirrel season (shhh)(well, statue of limitations is out though)

maybe 95 yards....most have been within bow distance. Seems I always get 150 yard shot with my bow and 30 yard shots with a gun. I need to switch things around a bit. Where I hunt is usually thick forest, don't get many clear shots over 75 yards

I was 16 and out with my Dad. The deer was a 6 pointer standing on top of a ridge line in Western Colorado, not far from Rifle. It was just past dawn. We had 4" of fresh snow that morning and more was coming down. I said, "I can hit that one from here", we were in the bottom of a draw. It was an uphill shot of about 600 yrds. It was a gentleman's bet and my father said I'd regret it, if I got it.

I dropped it with a .264WM on the first shot. It tumbled about 200 yards down the opposite side of the ridge. Best/worst shot I ever did. Now when I hunt, I consider how far I'll have to drag it. That was one long hall, quartering the animal, halling it up the ridge, down the ridge, up the draw and about a half mile to the truck.

He was a pretty smart fellow, my old man. If I had that shot again, I'd let it go. Way too much work.

Rifle - 357 yards (laser rf) with a Ruger M77 .270 shooting 150gr winchester silver tips

Shotgun 45 yard single shot 12ga with slug.

Handgun 11 yards with Ruger BH.

Longest was 385 yards with an 03 scoped with 20" barrel. Stock
was glass bedded and shortened GI scant. Scope 4X Weaver. Ammo
180 grain Seirra with 59 grains of 4831. A long carry back to camp!:D
This rifle enjoyed many hunts with one shot kills over the years:D The
last was in the back yard at 40 yards:neener:
