What's your preferred carry method?

Hey eatont9999, I'm in Brockton one of the harder places to get a class A. I still don't have it in my hand yet but officer Maver the lady that runs the show said everything went through ok they just haven't received it yet .. So we shall see. (Crosses fingers)

PS
Why cant I figure out how to quote someone on this board?? The "quote message in reply" doesn't seem to work.

I'm a Floridian so clothing is usually optional down here. I find a Seecamp LWS32 in my right front pocket (DeSantis Nemesis holster) works great for me!

Anyone have good suggestions for decent ankle holsters? How about something that works in the small of your back?

right strong side butt forward open top holster, you can draw and fire behind your back or toward the front.

When I was a bit younger and weighed 20 less pounds, I really liked the Bianchi Belly Band. I carried a S&W 640 hammerless revolver or a Walther PPK/S .380 auto in it. I could draw from it under my shirt almost as fast as what I use now - A high ride pancake holster with a matching strong belt.
You can hide and carry comfortably almost any handgun the size of a 5" 1911 or smaller in the RIGHT holster.

As for the shoulder holster thing, I'll have to agree with the other guys about getting uncomfortable quick. The looks of a shoulder holster is deceiving about the comfort thing. I've tried alot of them, and I think that the only thing usable for me might be one of the Galco Miami Classic shoulder rigs or the DeSantis Jackass rigs that are pretty much the same thing.

I am very comfortable carrying my XD9(primary carry) in the holster that came with it. OWB is very comfortable for me, and in my opinion allows faster access to the weapon. I have a Galco Skyops for my Defender, which allows very good concealability, even to the point of being able to tuck my shirt in, but it is an absolute monter to re-holster a gun in. Every time I draw, I have to un-do everthing to get the Defender back in.

Does the XD holster actually count as concealed?

I was looking at getting an XD45 before too much time passes, but I didn't know if I'd find the hoster useful in day-to-day situations (looks like it would be good if I find somewhere to shoot IDPA or something though).

Strong side IWB 4:30-5:00, clipped with an accessory clip, no holster.

A distant second is pocket carry in a round cut Mika pocket holster.

I will sometimes do 4:30 in an Uncle Mike's belt holster, strong side, if I'm wearing a heavy coat and perhaps driving a long distance.

Depends On The Weapon AND My Dress Code For The Day

When I tote my 1911 .45 ACP's (which is MOST of the time), I prefer
the OWB carry in a real leather, open top, compact undercover rig
from Kirkpatrick Leather of Laredo, Texas. Likewise, when I decide
to carry one of several Smith & Wesson 5-shot snub-nose revolver's;
I use a soon too be 33 year old Bianchi model 6 IWB. Both, the 1911's
and the S&W revolver's are carried between the 3:30-4 o'clock position.

I carry a G19 in a Galco Walkabout.

It is a clip on IWB vertical holster with a spare mag pocket directly in front of the gun. I like it because I can easily and quickly rearm/disarm if I'm going into areas that are gun free (court for example). I also throw a Galco mag pocket holster for another spare G19 mag in the front pocket, although this does print in thinner dress pants.

I dislike a lack of forward cant, but it is a trade off for having a spare mag there. There is also a lack of strong retention method, but that doesn't concern me greatly.

In casual dress it is easy to conceal, just a un-tucked cover shirt is required. More formal wear requires a coat or some sort of formalish vest. Yes I've been told three piece suits are out of style - I don't much care:neener:

I always carry using a OWB leather open top holster at 4:00 on my hip, with a mag pouch at 9:00. The only exception to this is when I carry my S&W 642, which has been carried in different pockets depending on what I'm wearing at the time.

As for shoulder holsters, they do have their place in concealed carry, but not for me. I've tried a quality leather rig before and I find them hard to draw from, and I always had to wear a jacket that was partially zipped - something I don't favor even when it's gross out as Washington weather is known to be. I would favor one for carrying during long road trips or to slip on to investigate the bump in the night, but otherwise find them useless for daily concealed carry. To each their own.

If I can offer any advice I've learned over the years, it's this: Buy the best holster you can afford and use a belt designed for carrying a gun. This will help in support and comfort, and it will save you in the long run of buying and trying different things only to end up with 'the box of holsters' which sits in a closet collecting dust.

primary = kidney iwb or owb, deopending on pants.

backup = appendix iwb or jacket pocket

remember that if you get a soft iwb holster that it might be difficult to reholster the weapon after a draw.

Snubby in front pocket with pocket holster (Mika, Nemesis, or Uncle Mikes, depending on the pocket) and small 9mm (Kahr or Glock 26) in a Hume JIT belt slide at 2:00. And 1 reload for each.

And I wear the same suspenders as bakert so the weight won't pull my pants down.

Snubby = front pocket carry, Galco or excellent homemade pocket holster. Auto = high rise forward cant carry, my choices are Galco open top paddle and G & G belt holster.

front pocket of pants in warm weather. If cooler weather, then inside coat pocket.
