Okay, most probably know if they go to the Rohrbaugh forum that 99% of what you hear is going to be positive because everyone there is a fan of the pistol.

It just seems to me first off that if the pistol is designed to be a back-up/CCW, the price tag of $950 seems real steep. To me its almost making it untainable at the price for the guy/girl who needs that type of gun. With that cost its more like a collector's item. Maybe the price will come down eventually, as other guns have that used to carry big price tags.

Then you have to be at least conscious that maybe down the road they won't be in business. The gun also isn't perfect either :what: plenty of people on the Rohrbaugh forum have posted about them having to get replacement mags, extractor issues, and such. So it looks like the best thing to do is wait and see to me. Looks like they do have some bugs to be worked out, and maybe the price will drop too.

I was gonna fork over the money for one, but after much thought I did not. I do have a Seecamp .32 on order and I will see how reliable it turns out to be.

I have yet to see one.
My main disqualifier is the price. I realize they may be made one ata time..... but that doesn't make them worth the extra $500-$600 IMO!

I will wait and see..........

My PM9 is doing a superb job! I may even buy a larger Kahr to ride on my hip. Now if they could work out the details for a .45 ACP in ~the same size
then I'd be satisfied. Yeah I know..... it won't work, or so I've been told!

Bob79,

Watch out -- the Rohrbaugh Forum is coming to you anyway!

A few things...

There really haven't been any reports of problems since the guns started shipping en mass in May. Therewere a few problems (all mag related that I know of) with guns to the "early adopters." Much of the delay in getting these things shipping was the desire to make sure they were absolutely right.

I have already seen street prices already of $899, even with demand being through the roof. Is that much more than you would pay for a Sig or a Kimber or other higher-end speciality gun? I will tell you that unlike those guns, the Rohrbaugh R-9 has no MIM or cast parts. This is a gun of jewel-like quality that is test fired by one of the Rohrbaugh brothers before it leaves the plant -- that does cost some money to make.

As for how they will sell, Rohrbaugh has spent $0 on advertising that I am aware of (other than putting up their website), and already have a several month backlog. After reviews start appearing in the major mags, they will have more than enough orders to keep them in business for a long time. Honestly, I think this gun has the potential to be a cult favorite -- much like the H&K P7M8 (which is also more expensive).

That being said -- if you want one, you want one -- you you don't, you don't. To each his own. Some people want a $60 Spyderco knife, others lust for a $350 Chris Reeve knife. Both will cut things very well. Its all in what you want and are willing to spend.

$900 for a backup?
My idea of a $900 backup is payin' 4 goons with 12 ga. Mavericks to follow me.
It's the price. H*ll, I'm not worth $900 -- just ask my ex and the credit bureau!

:) I've had my R9S since 5/24/04. I'm very happy using it as my BUG. It's also handy when I'm just wearing jeans and a T-shirt as my only pocket gun being in 9mm instead of .32 or .380. I don't try to convince anyone that my choices will work for them. I'm happy with the quality and "shootability" of this firearm for me. I liked it so much, I ordered another.

Like TX Bob ... I too have ordered another. :p

On the Rohrbaugh Forum .. true . we are enthusiasts and talk kindly of the pup .. but don't be fooled .. none of us I think is being other than honest in our appraisal.

The main bugs have been sorted .. one (the main) reason why deliveries have gotten so delayed. I shot mine back in March when Eric brought my #1 to a PA shoot .. put 30 rounds thru then .... but waited another 2 months before my sticky hands got it for keeps! QC at Rohrbaugh is hot ... a gun will not be released if it is not fully checked and acceptable.

It is- sure - a VERY expensive piece ...... and being small, it seems over-priced compared with custom 1911's for instance. As has been said ... think of a P7M8 and what that costs.

Do not let the small size detract from what it is ... a (as DDGator says) .... a 6+1, 9mm Parabellum pocket pistol ...... locked breech too. Quite a powerhouse in a very small package.

It will not be the gun for some ... true., The P3-AT, the Seecamp .. the Kahr PM9 etc ... will suffice for many people. But for the discerning and those who can manage the cost .. it is .. and will be IMO .... the winner of small pistols in the coming times.

Well, I'm serious about carry guns, so I've got a PM9, and a P3AT.
Years ago, I would have said you were nuts to pay $900 for a gun.
But, people change.

I've got almost $900 tied up in the two guns I mentioned.
So, I guess it's not out of the question.

The idea of a shootable 9mm the same size as a P3AT is very tempting.
Has anybody posted a review?

I know a couple of the original owners couldn't, because they were getting paid to write about it.
But, while I may pay $900 for a handgun, the days are long gone when I'll pay $8-12 for a magazine. :uhoh: :fire:

Has anybody posted a review?
Mini14 ..... I have done one range test so far HERE and just after I received it posted some pic and info .. HERE

I plan another ammo assessment next week with Gold Dots .. I'll post info when done.

Also .. see link at bottom of my sig .... quite a lot of feedback is accruing on the Rohrbaugh forum.

I'll wait until a lot of people here at THR post that theirs work 100%. Then - and only then - will I consider buying one.

Gonna order mine around Christmas...I have thought of ordering 2 at one time...wonder if I can sneak it past swmbo?

Years ago, I would have said you were nuts to pay $900 for a gun.

Inflation, while low in recent years, still means $900 is not what it was 10 years ago and certainly not what it was 20 years ago.

Still too much for me to pay up front for a gun without handling one in the flesh first.

Might be a good profit center for a busy range to get one to rent out.

--wally.

I agree with the concensus, so far. While the price is a bit up there, it would be worth it if this weapon really fit me and my pockets. I've been having a heck of a time getting anything to hide in my LFP, but I've looked only at the P3AT as all of the others don't suit my tastes.

When I see one of these R9s's and can get a feel for it, I might shell out the bucks. Can you get it with from-the-factory stippling?

P95Carry, good write up, thanks.

I've also been browsing on the Rohrbaugh forum.
There is no doubt that I would enjoy one of these guns.

I wouldn't be surprised if the P3AT got bumped out of the pocket some day.

I like the concept, and would love to have one, but Im having trouble coming up with the cash for a kahr pm9, let alone the rohrbaugh. It seems like the perfect deep ccw, with 6+1 9mm in such a small package, but I cant swing the price right now.. I guess until Im done with school, Ill hold on to my 642 and p32 as pocket guns.
