At a third meeting I was allowed sto speak and I used three minutes. I was then told i needed to stay at the podium so I could be asked some questions.

Actually the first question was "Are you a member of the NRA?"

I then spoke for less than two minutes, the Female Rep asking the question ran to the ladies room.
Bob, beer's on me if you ever get to Dallas.

I am the original poster (OP) for any of you who just skipped through this thread. From time to time I come across anomalies such as the one I linked to and wonder to myself, "What do other people think of this?" I normally think outside the box on legal and societal issues and resort to questions like I posed to spur a debate I can learn from.

I live in a relatively isolated rural mountain community and in 6 years have yet to find anyone with whom to discuss the kind of issues vital to our self interest I find here. I may have found one yesterday, but that remains to be seen. Thank you for helping me to understand the different perspectives on such important issues as the perception of classification of firearms. It is refreshing to read the cogent responses you folks offer.

The Mini-14 became and "Assault Rifle" the day after the first AW ban in the US. Since the AR's and the like were banned, the anti-gunners had to turn somewhere.

If we are not careful, one day, single shot rifles will be considered assault weapons.

In the minds of some "people" in Wash DC, when you remove the wood stock and install a plastic black stock.......................

the moment that Ruger and aftermarket hicap mags became available to the civilian market and Ruger made the automatic version of the platform

At Armourer's School, we learned there was slight differences in the receivers of the AC-556 and the Mini-14 making their respective trigger groups not interchangeable. Some components of the trigger group parts are, but the housings cannot be swapped.

Thanks a lot Steyr-Aug. Now we're going to be restricted to Velco shoes, slip-ons, flip-flops, jesus-sandals or shoe-string length limits. Great, just great. ;)
