First was a S&W 686 357mag in 1992....
Second was a NEF 22lr revolver in 1992..
Third was a Taurus PT99 9 mil in 1993..
Forth was a Colt 1991A1 commander late 1993...
It was far from the first handgun I bought... and then left the collection soon after. I tried another a year or two later, and again sold it soon after.
Occasionally I think about getting another just to have one, but it isn't worth it.
I didn't like the 1911 for a long time because I thought it didn't fit my hand very well. But, I eventually bought one just to have an example in my collection. Once I started shooting it, I started liking it more and more. I only have one 1911 right now, but have owned several, and I'm planning to buy a semi-custom carry 1911 very soon.
I'd shot a .22 revolver and a .44-40, both belonging to my Grandad when I was a kid. When a teenager, I discovered the 1911 via my Dad. Been hooked ever since, going on 30 years now.
Not yet, but it's next, so that'll be 6+. I'd get one sooner but I've got two problems. My taste is expensive, and I need to shoot a gun before I buy one. I don't happen to bump into many people with Dan Wesson's around town.
My first ever purchase was a Taurus that I immediately returned for a Springfield XD....After getting into firearms, the next pistol I purchased was a Rock Island 1911. Still have the RIA and currently have only 1911s in my pistol collection
I've never owned one. Whenever I consider a 1911 I always talk myself out of it...There are a variety of reasons that I decline to share, as I am sure they will ignite a hellstorm of critisism.
Last tuesday was my 21st birthday, I went and bought a Springfield loaded 1911 in stainless steel. Waiting on my wilson combat mags and desantis speed scabbard. Have winchester pdx 230 gr hollow points as my carry. Love the gun, have wanted a 1911 for years and I picked mine up first thing my 21st.
My 4th gun, right after finding out that the wife did not like the Sig P232 SL 380acp nor did I thru 1450 rounds and when the new SA EMP SAO 9mm 1911 came out, sold the Sig, bought the EMP 1911 and both the wife and I have not been disappointed, far from it, now, with7k flawless rounds thru it in the past years.
There will be a full size 1911/45 one day, just has to be..
One of the_perfect platforms IMHO, not to mention the best trigger in the business.
It is my sixth Ruger and further down the list on hand guns! 12+
The reason I bought it is: It's a Ruger!
I had a thought of getting on but the American made ones were to much money!
A 1911 was my second pistol, first got a Ruger .22 Mark I then a Colt Series '70 Government Model - both in 1976. Then a mixed parts shooter P08 Luger, then a S&W Model 19. Nice string of handguns in about a two year span! Still shoot them today.
1987, first pistol was a 1911, a Vega....the biggest POS 1911 ever.
A year later, had a race gun built from a Remington, then roughly 9 (Colts mostly, a couple of Springfields and another Remington) followed within two years.
Sold them all when I moved to another country. Now all my 1911s are Norincos. But they are Ok guns.
Bought mine a couple years back. Rock Island for really cheap around here something like 300 new. 1911 is one of the guns ive always wanted and needed to own since i was a kid.
Not really certain where it came chronologically, but it wasn't first. That was a Ruger KP90 because it was .45ACP, it was stainless, DA/SA and it was $500.
I finally got a RIA Tactical because I've always wanted a 1911. Everybody needs to own a 1911 and a .357 wheelgun.
This is tough. I had a 1911 30 years ago, couldn't get used to it, and sold it. A year or so ago I started shooting a friends Colt Government. It grew on me so much I bought a Springer TRP a few weeks ago. The bummer is that I'm currently recouping from bypass surgery and the surgeon hasn't cleared me for shooting yet.
I bought a new MK IV Series 70 Government Model in the Spring of 1974. How in the (expletive deleted) am I supposed to remember how many guns I had before that? Good grief, wait to you get over 60 and try to remember stuff like this. (LOL)
The very first handgun I ever bought was a Colt Series 70 5" 45 ACP Blue Government Model back in 1982 soon after getting out of the Army. While in the Army I was at times issued a 1911 and surprised myself at how well I shot it. I've never been without a Colt 1911 since then although unfortunately I no longer own that first one. I foolishly sold it to finance something I no longer remember what.
