I thought the buying had already started. Actually, I am pretty sure of that, since my WIFE just bought an AR lower and has been badgering me to find her a good deal on an AK as well... All the gun shops I have been in have noted especially brisk business over the past few months.

This is so three years ago. I started stocking up after Katrina. I must say given the amazing increase in prices in the past three years this proved to be surprisingly fortuitous.

find her a good deal on an AK

As I stated earlier-prudent buying. If you were panic buying the wife would have told you to "find her an AK" Big difference, especially in the pocket book.

All the gun shops I have been in have noted especially brisk business over the past few months.

And due the basic economics of supply and demand, they will eventually raise their prices. Then you'll see business level off and slowly decline back to where it was several months back.

I wish I had owned a gun earlier. When I started buying ammo, it was already high priced but I figured it would drop soon.

D'oh.

Ironically, if Obama did follow-through on his promise to end the Iraq War, that could potentially cause ammo prices to take a slight dip?

Possibly, but not right away. And inflation which I hear does not actually exist unless you count food, fuel, energy, metals, and dollars will likely eat up any cost savings.

What, exactly is our "horrible economic situation???". If you understand history at all...we are living in a golden age.

If the currency was still backed by gold, I might share your confidence.

It's always a gilded age--for some or even most.

1967. Would have started in 1933, but wasn't born yet. Seriously, once the Feds started down this road in 1934 has there ever been any doubt that the goal of our so-called representatives has been to reduce us all to defenseless subjects? No? I didn't think so.

None of the poll options suited me.

My buying began the day I became legal to buy guns. It will never cease, unless I win the lottery.

Yes, I am buying ARs and AKs right now, and will buy a .50 before the election is over.

Actually things are pretty grim. On the radio today Limbaugh announced that there is only expected to be 1% growth in sales for pet related products, as opposed to last year's 5% growth. Didn't you hear that?

It scared the pants off of me. My dog is pretty upset about it too.

I am not pessimistic enough to believe that we could ever live in Obamanation but I didnt believe slick Willie could occupy the white house either and I spent some bored yrs in the army with no money to train! I am prepared for whatever the Dems can bring to include a second civil war or 1776 part Deux!

So Flamer, you have 7,300 boxes of ammo for every gun your own ?
You must have some BIG closets.

Nope but a entire basement devoted to situations like that, along with another hidey hole, lol.

<sigh> Brisk business huh? From this thread alone I have learned something and I am taking a mild guess at another. Folks seem to have been stocking up on multiple gun items for a long while now. If they have steadily stocked up at a constant rate over the years, then the increase in business isnt due to their purchases but to new buyers. Guns dont exactly wear out like a roll of tissue paper. Yes there is the occasional KB and what not, yes guns are "taken off the street" through buybacks and raids.

But I'm thinking that the increase in overall sells are probably do to folks being introduced to guns. The increase in positive images leads to more folks wanting to push through their misgivens and go ahead and buy that little plastic beauty they saw on T.V. With the popularity of the internet the wall of unaproachable gun stores is being down. Folks are losing their inhibitions to going to the gun store and looking a fool.

Instead of supporting a panic "the sky is falling" attitube, how about showing folks that yes, it is ok for them to own a gun too. "votefor Obama and you're an anti-american because he wants to take your guns." That doesn't quite lead someone to want to join the pro-gun rights cause. It is more likely to push them in the other direction.

Just my thoughts.

Guys, speaking of panic buying, check the used gun counter at your local shop. I have been checking mine twice a week and I am beginning to think there is a lot of panic selling going on right now...maybe to buy gas???...maybe people are thinking they can't shoot if someone trys to take away there guns??? Whatever the reason, I'm finding a ton of really nice like new guns. It's making my wallet thinner, but it's also keeping me at home dry firing at the TV and saving me money on whatever else I would be spending it on every night. My dog is happy to have me here too, or was, until he read what CHEESE wrote about decreased spending on pet products...now everytime I buy a gun, I have to buy a bag of rawhides.
