What guns did you want in your callow youth that you no longer lust for?

I'll start the list:

Ithaca Model 49 .22 singleshot "lever action" (really a falling block)
The mighty Herter's .401 Powermag!
Those little Llama .380's that look like a tiny little 1911, grip safety and all.

I never acquired any of the above, and really don't want any of them.

I guess.

On the other hand, that little Ithaca wouldn't make a bad survival gun.

And I guess I could use the .380 as a trainer for kids, or even small framed adults.

And I really should learn how to handload someday, and if I did, the Herter's would make a decent sidearm for bear country.

Hmmm....

Anyway, what are some of your lost loves?

Um ... I've had one of those for about 30 years now. I bought it from a disabled neighbor who bought it from a pawnshop and then decided he didn't really want it after a few days. A nice little gun for teaching kids how to shoot. It can be loaded/cocked/fired right or left handed equally well.

It's been riding around behind the seat of one pickup or another for many of those years.

An Uzi...

Yes. I'll admit it. When I was young and would thumb through Soldier of Fortune magazine and see 'em on TV, I thought they were the end-all-be-all of firearms.

When I was young, dumb, and full of...... :neener:

I wanted a pair of mini Uzis like Chuck Norris had in Invasion USA. Those and
the Auto Mag that Bronson had in Death Wish III.

I still kinda want the Auto Mag. :D

No working Man, you DON'T want an Automag: you want a Wildey. Bronsen didn't use a 'Mag in any of his movies, he used the Wildey (chambered in .45WinMag, IIRC)...

Here's the link for that beauty...

BTW... I have a 'Mag. It's the gun that ALL the women like to shoot, for some reason...

I'm pretty sure I'm still in my callow youth, however i no longer want a Mossberg 500 with the sidewinder drum, pistol grip, vertical "assault" forend and numerous lights and lasers.

I will however take a Remington 11-87 set up like this...all those accesories absorb recoil right?:uhoh:

I wanted a Desert Eagle .50. Boy am I glad I didn't ever get one.

I also wanted a Mossberg 500 with front and rear pistol grips. Got one and realized it was dookie. I swapped out the grips for a full stock and fore-end and now it's by the bed.

My bad... that's it... thanks Hunter Rose. I still want one. Thanks
for the link.

2TransAms, why are you glad you did not get a .50?
I have a .50 AE Mark VII and it's great fun. Only problem is my buddy's
baseball glove size hands (left handed) causes the slide lock to to engage if
he is not careful. :D

L.A.R. Grizzly

I wanted a LAR Grizzly in 45 Winchester magnum, and in hard chrome. Just like this one but I never bought one. Too much money and a hard to find round kept me from ever buying one.

Now I have grown out of it, mostly...

What i bought when i turned 18

I remember picking up a Mossberg catalog when i was in third grade 10 yrs later I bought the gun i dreamed about a Maverick bullpup 12 ga. and a few years later i realised that it didnt serve much of a purpose so i traded it for the wifes new Browning Gold Sporting Clays I think i got more use out of her new gun too btw....

:neener:

That Wildey was actually in .475 Wildey Magnum, I believe.

"It's a shorter version of the big game cartridge. Makes a helluva mess."

Every time that movie is on I want a Wildey.

Hell, in press releases the Wildey folks admit their sales go up whenever Death Wish III is rerun. They probably owe TBS some serious coin...

I wanted a cool-looking rifle with lots of black plastic on it.

The Army pretty much broke me of any affection I had for those things.

I wanted a Tech 9 which I did get and actually hated it because it was innaccurate and jamed so much. :cuss:

I also wanted an UZI which I still wouldn't mind getting if it wasn't for other things I want. Isn't that always the case, more wants than money to buy. :banghead:

And then their was the Desert Eagle .50 AE. Although I grew out of wanting that I did buy a 4" S&W 500. :D

Always wanted a Nylon 66 Remington...

now i have a dozen or so, in the nylon 11, 12, 66, 67, 77 and Kassnar varieties...

Also wanted the Ithaca 49... i have them in .22 and .22 mag...

IF I WANTED IT THEN, I STILL WANT IT...

anyone got any remington Nylons for sale?

2TransAms, why are you glad you did not get a .50?

It's not the caliber, because I'd love to have a .50 GI 1911. It's the fact that there's a lot more pistols I now know that I'd rather have,so I probably wouldn't have shot it much or even kept it. In other words,I thought the Desert Eagle was the baddest pistol in the world.

hm

i guess i never had very high aspirations as a callow youth. or, perhaps I'm still one.

I really wanted a glock 19 for a very long time (9 years). I turned 21, had to work and go to school, put it off, 5 years later, all my guns got stolen.

THEN I decided to go and buy a glock 19. I re-did all the accumlated research, hemmed and hawed, and then went to the gun store...

and came home with a used sig p228 along with a faint, nostalgic memory of having loved a glock.

other than that, I suppose I've always regretted having had to make the hard choice two months before the cal ban between a bushmaster xm15 and a VEPR .308. I went with the xm15; it got stolen; now I have a small packet of VEPR pictures that I gaze sadly, longingly, after every once in a while.

As a kid I wanted an M-16....I still kinda want the M4 version...but primarily to plink, I wouldn't really count it among the better self defense weapons when AKs and VEPRs are to be had.

Also I had a serious jones for blue, snub nosed revolvers, probably because of Hawaii 5-O and the fact my dad carried one for years.

Lastly, the 1911, just like the A-Team had. Since then I've owned 3 and sold 3.

Oh, I almost forgot, the Ruger Mini-14, just like the A-Team....but not as much as I wanted that black van.

A Desert Eagle for me in 44 mag. I patiently waited for the day I could afford one. As time went on I kept buying other stuff but the DE was always in the back of my head.

Then one day I saw a DE in a display case and it just so happen I had the money for it also. But I handed it back and bought a Kimber 1911 for me and a Ruger 22/45 for my wife. Money well spent and I never looked back (made my wife happy too).

I have to add that when I was yound I wanted and AK. After having been in the Army using the M16 and then owning AR15s I developed a dislike for the AK. I must say that my biddest childished want which the Army actually helped fuel was for an M60. The M60 will stay on my short list of dream guns.
