Read this article. All of the suspects, perpetrators, and victims are under 21 and would most likely be unable to purchase a handgun (most common gun by far in these types of incidents) so, background checks, red flag laws, and other laws would not affect them at all.

A large portion of America's violence involving guns is with youths who are under 21 and cannot legally purchase a gun so gun laws and new proposed gun laws would have no affect on them yet they are still able to illegally obtain guns. One kid in this story got 2 guns in a week's time.

May of the kids in these stories range from 13 to 16 years old.

Youth violence is a large portion if not majority portion of the so-called "gun violence" in America.

From the article:

“The rise in juvenile killings is terrible, and unfortunately it’s something we’ve been dealing with this summer,” Constantino sighed.

At the time of his death, Gil-Medrano was wanted for an armed carjacking — one of three open gun cases against him in family court. He was out on the streets, though, thanks to the state’s Raise the Age law, which shields 16- and 17-year-olds from being prosecuted as adults and sparing many from Rikers Island.

Two other youths with alleged gang ties, Alec McFarlane, 15, and Mehki Williams, 19, were busted in Gil-Medrano’s slaying. Both are being held without bail, according to online records."

Aside from the fact that criminals do not obey the laws, MOST GUN LAWS SPECIFICALLY EXCEPT KNOWN CRIMINALS.

Let's look at gun registration . . .

If a state or locality requires all firearms to be registered, or that the firearm owner must have a permit for possession, all persons that are prohibited from gun ownership by local, state, or federal laws, are, by the statues wording must be exempt from this requirement. Under the 5th Amendment, no one can be compelled to incriminate themselves in violations of any laws. Registration or requesting a permit is admitting that you have, or plan to obtain a firearm, and if you are prohibited, this would be admission of violation or intent to violate the law. Therefore, they cannot be included in these requirements.

This point was one of the first Supreme Court cases involving the 1968 GCA, see Haynes v. United States. As a result of this case, the 1968 GCA was amended to make it apply only to those who could lawfully possess a firearm.

You never hear much about Haynes v. United States, do you?

Why?

Because this case proved there can only be one reason to register or issue permits, and it has nothing to do with preventing criminals from getting guns.

The unstated purpose of gun registration laws and other restrictions is to reduce the general availability of guns in the society. Thus (the theory goes), fewer guns in general would mean that it would be harder for the miscreants to get them. This overlooks the reality that we are already awash with a surplus of guns. No gun control legislation would be successful in accomplishing its stated (or unstated) aims. America is unique in all the world regarding the number of guns in civilian hands. Therefore, all the talk about gun control is just bloviating.

The other elephant in the room is that the juvenile offenders know whatever the do generally gets sealed when they turn into adults. So no record and it takes some time to reestablish that they are bad guys in soceity again. That law has to be changed and soon.
Just turn 18 and a get out of jail free card! Not

The personal tragedy of violent crime is merely a tool for generating revenue. The people writing checks in support of gun control might genuinely have their hearts in the right place, and believe that gun control legislation will reduce violent crime. But those cashing the checks and writing legislation know better, and, I would argue, are complicit in maintaining a level of violent crime (and thus personal tragedy) that perpetuates the funding.

Bingo. The hope of the controllers is to restrict the number of guns in circulation so much that eventually there won't be very many left to steal. Of course it would take a few hundred years, but who's counting?

I personally think so much of misguided/ignorant gun control comes down (originates from) a "we've got to do something...anything, to break the cycle of gun violence." Particualrly after a mass shooting.

Except so much of what is "tried" is unconstitutional/illegal, and ultimately, low-hanging fruit in that the restrictions/hurdles only screw law-abiding citizens. Since stopping criminals is actually very, very tough, screwing over law-abiding folks whom, "they" judge "don't need a semi-automatic to hunt or defend yourself" is worse than bloviating...it is illegal imposition of other folks morals and beliefs on those who choose to exercise their 2nd Amendment rights. You don;'t need to tell me what I do or do not need when it comes to firearms. But, they get some through and feel like they did something to stop crime. Except, of course, they didn't really. And they don't care. These little anti-2A victories become a platform for politicians, etc.

Which is why the number of guns registered in New York City has increased steadily, over the years (slowly, but steadily).

If the intent is the reduce the number of legal guns in circulation, it is failing miserably.
