When was it made?

I just acquired a Colt Detective Special on a trade. Serial # is 2936XX.
I'm just curious as to its age and if it is possible to tell from the serial number if the weapon was produced as blued or nickel plated? The example is currently nickel plated. Any info is appreciated.

If I'm looking correctly at my book, The Colt Detective Special shared the same serial number range as the Police Positive Special. Not knowing the caliber and based on what you provided, it looks to of been produced late in 1924. Can't help you with the nickel question.
