It seems that the most popular brands and models are a little harder to find. For example gen 3 Glocks seem to be available but gen 4s are harder to find. Range ammo in 9mm is also showing a shortage. Glock claims that they are at 100% in their manufacturing and have 100,000 guns in back order. This gives a really good chance for the less popular gun lines to get more business.
The best advice is to rent or borrow the gun to try out before buying. There is no one model that fits all.
In CA I would look for guns that single stack since you are limited on mag size.
