Y'all would be amazed how much supply is in the hands of reloaders who no longer reload. Horse-trading is and barter is your path to continuing through this shortage. It helps to have friends. :)

Yes mate.....this y I hits all those estate sales.
I probably have enough I guess what I'd call "extra" primers to, at what the gougers are asking on the broker and the like, pay the note on the farm for the next few months. That isn't me, I'll keep em. 1950 bux for a 5000 count...yea, could a few times......but, I sleep good at night

Down here the swappin' and tradin' starts off with, "I got a buddy..." :D

Down here ....
??? Huh? Loozeaners way yonder up north... for me. ;)

I think we all saw a long time ago this "shortage" has been extremely regional. Some cities have had supply throughout while others have had nothing. Some parts of Texas posters report never running out of anything - full shelves and no worries - while most parts of Florida have had nothing. Most... Real glad to see reports of product moving again. I'd be real curious to know if this is pre-plandemic production finally leaving warehouses or new production made from new components. I just don't know how to get that data.

The only data I have seen at all is when the big companies make announcements saying total production numbers compared to previous years. You would have to work for vista distribution to get the deep details you seek.

Okay, pardon the way this is going to sound - apologies in advance - but it's been a while since I bought bulk .22LR. Is $30/500 a good price or just average now?

The last time I bought that same Aguila HP - which I consider one of the better .22LR rounds out there - was probably about three years ago, maybe four, and I bought two bricks for $24, on sale. IIRC, $20/500 was full retail? After the O'Panics of 2009/10 and 2015/16, prices for .22LR went into the ditch, briefly and I stocked up so I really don't recall what "normal" prices are supposed to be.

The last two bricks of .22LR I bought were 2018 (pre-plandemic, obviously) Fiocchi standard-velocity 40gr. premium target for $15/500 and Eley-Tenex Semi-Auto 42gr. subsonic for $40/500, both on the clearance table at Beckwith's (Micanopy, FL). I paid up for the Eley-Tenex - which was a smokin' deal at $40/500! - because it cycles my 1930's Colt Woodsman and Hi-Standard Duramatic M-101 reliably and hits POA out of both. Great ammo but P-R-I-¢-Y, even in good times.

I'm out of the Eley-Tenex and haven't seen it in about two years - since 2018 in fact. I still have plenty of CCI and Federal subsonic, quite a lot of the CCI .22Long and Short for my pump and bolt action Remingtons, Am almost out of CCI CB's, still have a brick of Aguila, two partial bricks of CCI SV/RN, and a brick of the Fiocchi SV/RN "Performance Olympic" - which I also have not seen since 2018.
I havent seen any real variety of 22. Some cci, aguila super extra and bulk federal. None of the specialty stuff in a long time.

cci should use that .22 primer chemicals for some real primers and flood the market!

Tough to know , honestly. A local shop got 400,000 or so cci primers in about a month ago, not sure from where. The prices were $130 for rifle primers and $190 for pistol primers, still too rich for my blood so I bought none. Hope I don't regret that but it seems things are coming back. Heck, I got 3# of 2400 the other day, haven't seen any in well over a year and then "poof" there it is. I have faith they'll return soon

Yeah, it makes me sick when I see people wanting $200 or people paying $200 for a brick of primers. I was desperate for SRP's. I tracked Gunbroker auctions for a while and finally got some for $130 a brick including shipping and tax. Yeah, that is way too much, but this is still cheaper than paying $0.60+ per round of loaded ammo. I was checking PV, Midway, and Midsouth websites multiple times a day, hoping to get lucky. Just gave in to the scalpers and paid the $130. The prices are dropping, so just have to hang in there. I will hopefully, buy my next brick in a year or so for less than $50. Let's hope.

I've been heavily considering a bow. Builds strength, motor skills and they have a place to shoot that at mciver I want to try. Plus if he ever hunts that gives him another season.
Yes!!!

My wife and I shoot bows. She’s better than I am. Good exercise but the sun will rip your skin off if you stay out too long.

What I find really odd is that I have a few friends in Canada and when I talk to them about it, they start laughing. They say there is no shortage up there, they send me pictures of shelves full of primers and ammo and cheap too, like $20.00-30.00 per 1k. They tell me not to jump on that train and pay those prices for it, just wait. They say there are warehouses slap full of primers and ammo just waiting to come out after they milk as much money as they can out of people. Makes sense really when you think about it, the govt owns 3 ammo mfg plants that I know of and what better way to get money out of people, they cant keep raising taxes without a revolt so they get it other ways..(dunno shrugs)

Forgive me if this is an UNinformed ?
But could a person go into Canada and bring back said primers for personal use, Legally ?
I've brought back items legally from Mexico before ( tobacco, alchohol, vanilla, ect).
Or is it not the same...?

Again, I am talking LEGALLY, not boot smuggling type of stuff....

Very interesting! Canada didn’t get CoFlu money checks and we did! These MBA at the gun and ammo companies are probably getting nice bonus this year!

We have a boat load of primers stuck at the canadian border because of regulations … So probably not

Give it a try and have your next of kin let us know what happened.

Did you read this first...?

Nope. Importing explosives without a license is illegal and there is no "personal use" exemption.
