I have a dozen FAL magazines somewhere but I can't find, now I'm stuck with the only mag that I keep on my rifle! Surplus FAL mags were like $5 each when AK mags were $10+ and G3 mags were $3, now surplus AK mags are still $10 or a bit more and they keep coming in and G3 mag is still less than $10 but surplus FAL mags are $25+ and no new surplus FAL/L1A1 mags coming in to the market. FAL/L1A1 were used by more than 90 countries and got the name of Right Arm of Freedom, but where are all the surplus mags? Part kits are getting expensive but still coming in! What countries still use FAL? Send Century or Classic over there to buy some mgs. I think only DSA makes new FAL mags.

FAL mags haven't been cheap or plentiful in 10+ years. I have a 7.62 ammo can that holds 10 loaded mags rather neatly. I've got two of the early 30 round mags but they don't work worth a hoot.

Surplus mags are just about the same price as some of the brand new polymer mags out there. The days of anything being cheap and plentiful are long gone I'm afraid.

The days of cheap FAL anything are long dead and buried.
Probably closer to 15 years ago.

Haven't seen a sub 300 parts kit in over 10 years.

No one makes the FAL in any quantity anymore.

Brazil is phasing them out and Argentina likely only produces enough to keep its numbers even.

The Nigerians are trying to move away from the FN as well.

The only "large" producer anymore is DSA. And that's not a lot in the scheme of things.

The FAL magazines you want to avoid are (a) DSA, and (b) Korean. For the metric pattern, the best ones are Belgian and Austrian. The last good ones I bought ran $20-25 each. And that was several years ago.

I have a few that really should have been left laying around in Rhodesia because they weren't worth picking up. That said, Thermold makes some for the FAL and they also make RRA's poly mags for their LAR-8. They work extremely well in my old Bushmaster BAR10 which uses FAL mags.
The last steel FAL mags I bought were from Palmetto State Armory before they got so big all of a sudden back sometime before 2010. Still in cosmoline and worked well, but not as smooth as the Thermolds.

I am just crazy enough that I picked up two FALS recently. I found mags on gunbroker. You have to be patient and find some for a good price.
