Hi,

I just got a used Benchmade, it looks and feels solid and the action is tight but on the blade it said China? I thought Benchmade are made in the US?

Thanks,

Depends on the Benchmade. The ones that say "made in China"...are.

Here's the info you need:
Location

In 1996, Benchmade moved to Oregon City. Apart from some Red Class products, which are produced in their "off shore facilities",[13] Benchmade produces more than 90% of its knives in Oregon City, and has succeeded in bringing others back to home production.[14] Since 2010, all Red Class production knives have been discontinued, and as such, every Benchmade product is made in the United States.
One of the reasons Benchmade is located in Oregon, as are many other knife makers, is because Oregon has very relaxed laws toward knives in general and switchblades or butterfly knives in particular; there are no restrictions against selling a switchblade-style knife to an Oregon resident.[15]

NRA Colaborations

I have a Benchmade "NRA Outdoors" series knife.

It's made in Taiwan. Good quality steel (main blade is 440C, skinning & gut hook are AUS8A), sharp from the box, holds its edge.

My understanding is that Benchmade's other "NRA Outdoors" knives are also made in Taiwan.

Benchmade (from my limited experience) has good QA in place wherever they have their stuff made.

On their website, they stated that the red line was discontinued, and only USA made knives will be made?

Knives branded "Benchmade" are all made in the US now. The imports are all under their HK Knives and H-D Knives brands. Many Red Class items are still available as HK and/or H-D Knives.

I don't know about the H-Ds, but most of the HK are USA. Snody also worked with HK on a few designes.

I believe the Snody HK's were still made by Benchmade as they had other Benchmade knives in production that Mike designed.

If there is a Butterfly on the blade, it is made in the USA. H&K, Harley Davidson, Bone Collector, and Lone Wolf knives may be made in the USA or Imported, look for the words "USA Proud" or "Import" on the product page.
