what country are leupolds made in? Found some that have to be knock offs because the price is too good.

http://www.leupold.com/corporate/about-us/americas-optics-authority/

All Leupold Golden Ring® Riflescopes are designed, machined, assembled, and tested in Leupold’s state of the art manufacturing facility in Beaverton, Oregon, USA.
That's straight from the page that I linked. Leupold does buy individual components from overseas, but the finished product is assembled in the US.

There are a lot of counterfeit Leupolds on eBay, and I would not buy an optic from that site on a bet.

You can sometimes get what appear to be great deals on the Rifleman series. I would still be wary though if they are under 100 NIB. They generally retail for 180-270 depending on which one.

thats what I figured. Not ebay though. Wholesaler. That means theres thousands and thousands of fake scopes of a lot of brands floating around. scary. Just wanted to make sure because there's some shooting lights where I found the manufacturer in china and got the light for a fraction of the price. Like a 10th of the price. China makes everything these days.

After having scopes fog in the winter, I decided not to skimp on my scopes. Leupold is the only one I would buy if I were in the market for one.

Jerry

If you can't make a scope fog, no matter the high-tech coating and surface treatments, you aren't trying hard enough. Run around in freezing temps, get sweaty, and then cover the ocular lens and you will fog up even the best.

I must add that Leupold is entirely made in the USA with American workers and yes they do source some of their optics from Asia, I would assume Japan as I have been told. This applies strictly to rifle scopes. On the www.opticstalk.com forum they really love to make a big deal about the fact that when someone mentions that Leupold is made in the USA, "but they source their glass from Asia, therefore they are not really made entirely in the USA." Well, they are entirely made in the USA, with as I said American workers that support American families. There is almost nothing made in this or any other country that is made entirely from materials sourced from the country of origin, especially very technical products that require specially made components such as optics. So that argument does not float. It is a lot better than if they made them in China or if they sourced inferior glass from the USA, or if they sourced glass from the USA that caused the cost of the scope to double. Yes, Zeiss Conquest scopes are made in the USA and thus American made and that is good as the money made by these workers stays in this country. Unfortunately corporate profits go back to Germany, unlike Leupold where they stay in this country. By the way, my Leupold rangefinder was made in China. I was very disappointed when I received it and saw that on the RX-IV.

Leupold is the ONLY name brand scope I will ever purchase. I just had too many problems with other lower-quality, lower-cost scopes to turn back now.

The last Leupold I purchased is a Vari-X-I 3-9 x 40mm, matte, model 56600-A for my AR. All other Leupolds I have purchased have always been Vari-X-III's. I paid about $190 or so for this scope and have had no problems at all with it on a Leupold AR Handle mount (see-through hole) and Quick-Disconnect Rings which I can install or remove the scope inside of ten seconds, easily (15 seconds if my hands are frozen).

My Leupold range-finder was made in China.
Yeah, I was actually quite irritated and I really have not been happy with it. It has difficulty picking up distances not even near the maximum for a deer that my inexpensive Bushnell will pick up. I have heard similar experiences from other owners on forums. If the target has a high reflectivity it seems to work fine, but on low reflectivity targets it is challenging. If I had known it was made in China I would have found one made in a non-communist country. Being that it was a Leupold I assumed it was made in America.

Leupold does source their glass from Japan. (The Japanese make fantastic glass, so no worries.) They also get minor parts like small screws from China, because they simply cannot manufacture or source anything in-house or Stateside when they need 5 million screws at a time. It just makes sense. The scopes are all made at the factory, however. There was some contention a while back about how Leupold removed "Made in US" from their products, and many speculated that Leupold was outsourcing much of their components. In reality, Leupold removed "Made in US" for liability reasons. Leatherman got sued by some jackwagon over marking their products that way, so Leupold decided to CY6 and stop putting it on. Rest assured that the scopes come from Beaverton, Oregon.

My sentiments exactly. I have not looked at my Leupold rifle scopes lately. The most recently one was purchased about 2 years ago. I cannot recall whether it said made in USA or not. Do their rifle scopes not say made in USA on them? If that is what you are saying, that is too bad.

Yep, their scopes and products no longer say it. It's too bad that it's all because of fear of litigation. Even worse that litigation would be a real possibility. Says a lot for our country these days...

Yeah, I noticed the latest VX-I I had didn't say Made in USA on the scope like the older Vari X II's I've had said. I'm not sure if it said it on the box or not.
