I want an A2 upper to finish out a build. I can't find one Reasonably priced. The ones I have seen have been very expensive, and that is frustrating me. Do any of you all have a source for a reasonable A2 upper? Don't care if it's used, complete, stripped...don't care.

I could go with a flattop but for this build I want it extremely simple. It's to be what I call the epitome of being a truck gun. AR pistol (until tax stamp happens) in 5.56 with military type traditional irons. No optics, not many doodads. I will put a light on it in case I were to be navigating at night but that's it. Probably run 20rd pmags. Because of the extreme utilitarian nature of the build I want to get a light, very compact, yet formidable tool for defense and hunting purposes. Do I expect to ever use it for that...no, but that's what I want. I actually want the utilitarian option of the "handle" for carrying the gun.

Seems just a couple years ago people were throwing these uppers away...not now.

They have actually become fairly rare it seems. I think Fulton Armory and Nodak stocked them last I looked (about a year ago).

They disappeared due to the fact that you can get a flat top + fixed sights that weigh less than the A2 upper. I like the A2 and A1 myself.

A friend gave me one a couple of weeks ago along with the DPMS 20" barrel that had been attached (rifle gas of course). All parts are there (has tear drop forward assist) and like new condition, i need a nitride BCG or nitride 14.5 to 16" barrel 1/7 or 1/8. PM me if you have some thing to trade for barrel and receiver or just receiver ( barrel is re attached but can be separated).

When CMP and NRA-HP did away with fixed handle A1/A2 receivers, it kinda all went the way of the dodo.

They are still out there to be had, any number of outfits still sell them, whether complete or stripped.

I'm all for open sights, but for versatility, especially in a truck gun, you're much better off with a flattop and folding sights than an A2.

I have a deal worked out with another member here. I am still going to keep an eye out for one more for a retro build. Building is an addiction. It may actually be worse than reloading.

I'm not sure if you are looking for actual Colt A2 uppers, but I believe that Rock River, DPMS and Del-ton all make A2 style upper receivers. I saw them in stock at Midway for $95.

I looked all over and midway was showing out of stock. Only place I found new uppers in stock they were quite pricey...$145 plus shipping I believe.

Ummm.... Flat top with a carry handle?

Y'all found them better than I did. 95 bucks plus the A2 parts kit to complete the upper gets right back up to being too expensive for my blood.
