Where can I actually find ammo?

I don't know where you are, but for me, all my local gun shops have ammo - not as much as before, but always some. None of the chains have any (WalMart, Dick's, Gander Mtn., Bass Pro), but the local stores where the owners actually help man the counters or are the gunsmith in the shop in back. My local walmart has been sold out of all handgun ammo and most rifle ammo for months, but I have never failed to find ammo at one of my local places (I only shoot 9mm, .38spl/.357 and .45acp) in Charlottesville, Fishersville, Staunton (VA).

Across the Potomac River

Hi, Went across the Potomac River into Hagerstown, Md and the local Wal-mart had 13 WWB 100rd value packs of 9mm . Now they have 8 left as I bought 5 boxes for $105.85 OTD. Can't find any here in Wv...............WVleo

BlackLabelO'P, you live in Coos Bay, right? Did you go to Hole in the Wall? Roseburg Gun had a couple cases of 7.62 in a while ago. Barons Den in Eugene always has a few cases on hand.
Online http://www.sportsmansguide.com generally has some good deals.

I haven't had any issues finding Ammo (North-Central Florida). WalMart is always in stock (granted any 7.62x39 and .22LR bulk packs are very hit-or miss), and the Gander Mountain near me is basically at FULL STOCK. It still has .223 Wolf on the shelves. I used to have to buy the $14.99/20 Federal Packs, but it was a shame to shoot it through the WASR, and going there this Saturday, I found Golden Bear 7.62 for $7.99/20. Not pre-election, but still good, and they had PLENTY.

However, if you're having trouble finding it locally, the internet is your very best friend. JGSales, AmmunitiontoGo, NatchezSS, and others all have excellent deals on factory-new ammo, and the internet has recently had a large influx of brass-cased Yugoslavian milsurp which is cheap, accurate, and of high quality.

I wish I could say "support your local gun shop", but I can't, because I don't. With the absurd prices I've seen lately ($25/50 Blazer Brass .45), supporting them is more charity than anything.

I don't know what the deal is lately, but I have never seen the ammo shelves at my local Wallyworld go bare until the last few weeks, and they are bare! Maybe a delayed Obama craze? Who knows...

Try to find .38 special, Chased it for 1 1/2 months, finally found a case of .38 sp 158 gr. swc, bought the whole case for $220.00. Don't have to wory for a while. Next hunt .45.

About all you can do is troll the internet sites and pounce whenever you find someone with the ammo you need in stock. I've just about given up on the local fun shops - they have some ammo, but not what I am looking for.

In addition to those listed in post #7, you might try Graf & Sons, Midway, Widener's, J&G Sales, Georgia Arms, Aim Surplus and AmmoMan.......... (I've bought from all of those folks in the past.)

Been looking for the Federal 550 pack at local Wally World now for three weeks. Ammo shelves look like toy counter at Christmas Eve......BARE. I asked the sporting goods manager when he was expecting some to be shipped and he looked at me like he couldn't believe I even asked the question.

I pick up a federal 550 pack everytime I go to wally world. and they all seem to have it, and in bulk amounts. its wierd, one state away youre having so much trouble.

Better......

I was able to do that up until about three weeks ago. I have a pretty good stash but at $16.00 a brick I just can't walk past the register without picking up another brick. I shoot it in my High Standards, Ruger and Remington 552BDL. The Ishmash Target Rifle doesn't like it at all. I work near WM so am able to check them out 2-3 times a week. Haven't given up yet.

By the way, are you north, south, east or west of me?

AND ALSO WELCOME TO THR......YOU'RE GONNA ENJOY THIS ONE!:D

If you ask the clerk behind the gun counter (at Wal-mart or your local gun store) when their next shipment comes in, they are usually really good about letting you know...... it's usually pretty frequent. If neither your local wal-mart nor your local gun store has some in stock and you are in a hurry, gun ranges usually ALWAYS have a good supply ready for sale.

I'm south (Austin, TX). My dad lives in Rogers, AR and he says picking up wwb 9mm at wal-mart is a thing of a past, not sure about the .22 situation.

Magnum

how much will take for them?

It's IMPOSSIBLE for me to believe that the biggest retail outlet in the world doesn't have the muscle to get as much ammo as they want. They are THE premier retail powerhouse that commands the supply markets. I think they have no ammo because they have been told by TPTB not to sell any ammo.

Big Bill

My sentiments exactly. I've suspicioned this for some time now. I had heard a couple of years ago that WM was going to get out of the gun business. Talked with the local sports dept manager and he said only in some areas. They were going to keep guns/ammo in stores where the sales justified it. I highly suspicion that he was wrong and the Wal Mart ammo supply has been intentionally dried up. Getting it in and selling it is one thing, not getting it at all is a totally different ball game.....Just MHO.

most of the ammo is at my house! But I'm hoarding, not selling.... :)

actually, I stocked up last year before the election and the price increases....not because of the new messiah, but because it was a year I had the cash to do so....

but I still find good quantities available at gun shows and several on line sites.... the different vendors vary as to whats in stock based on what they have sold and when the next shipment is coming in..... 5.56 or .223 seems to be the caliber in most demand right now.....but I still find what I need... just check out several vendors.... I find the Walmarts in the lower income parts of town have more in stock..... I assume because the population in those parts of town don't have the cash to stock up.... no disrepect meant, but the walmarts where I live are usually low on stock, but where I work about 20 miles away is a different environment altogether...
