I have a Dillon CV500 Tumbler I bought used about 9 years ago. Last year the motor went bad. I wrote Dillion asking to buy a replacement motor but was informed they have no more motors for the CV500. They now sell the CV750 which is the CV500 with a CV2001 motor. All good so far until I got to the price, they are asking for $105 even though a brand new CV750 costs $144. I'm thinking it's not worth the cost to upgrade just the motor but it would be good if I could buy a motor and replace it myself.

Where can I buy a motor for a fair price to replace the one in the Dillon tumbler? I think I remember there is an online store with A LOT of motors but I just can't remember the name. (don't get old!) Thank you...

Try Surplus Sales of Nebraska they have small AC motors. You will have to adapt the mounting to your needs.

That's the first place I would look. A HVAC supply house will have a few, but Grainger has a wide selection, can match most anything, and get it overnight.

They will ship it into the store for free if you pick it up there. If you are near a Grainger, bring the old one in with you and let them match it up.

Either Granger or Mc Master Carr. Get the NP data from the motor. Dillon didn't make their own motors.

FWIW buy Granger parts from Zorotools. They cost less, always have promo codes active and even arrive in a granger truck, sometimes.

Yes the big bags of corn blasting media are the same also and the same as the other place that stopped free shipping.

Yep- Grainger owns Zoro Tools.
I have a Grainger 15 or so miles away yet I can order from Zoro, pay for shipping, and often have it the next day for LESS.

Someone already suggested Granger.

I'd vote not to throw good money after bad.

Buy a Thumlers Ultra Vibe, and be done with it.

When my second Lyman died, I went that route, and have no regrets, years later.

And small AC motors are small AC motors. Look in the Yellow Pages for an electric motor shop to have it rebuilt or replaced.
Mind you, this seems to be an on going and old issue with Dillon. There are all kinds of posts just like this dating from 10 or more years ago(2003, before and after) on other forums. Dillon's included. Gist is to call 'em back and ask somebody else.

Wow...I forgot to add that you "could" get the motor rebuilt.
I have a friend that had a small motor rebuilt by a local electrical shop that he said cost very little compared to a new one and even came with a warranty????

Just another idea to kick around, you may have a local shop that could do that?

TxD

You can find almost anything online these days if you have the data for it. Yes you can also take it to a motor shop & have it rebuilt but it may cost more than finding a replacement motor.

True also it helps if you know what happened to the old one. Ie mechanical failure, the relay, thermal overloads, bad capacitor.

I had one that had the rubber bearing retainer/sleeve on the end that has the weighted wheel go. I took out the rubber and replaced it with a squirt of hi heat silicone and it still works after drying. My bearing was just fine. YMMV

Guys, I should have been more clear. I bought a replacement already, a Berry's 400 in Cabela's Green. Actually it was 2 years ago instead of only 1 like I said in my OP. (time flies when having fun they say) I'm very happy with the tumbler I have and was only looking for a spare or a second tumbler as long as it's cheap. It's a very well built tumbler but I will only fix it if it's not big bucks. Thanks for the advice to buy new but I already did... lol

What happened to the original motor, bearings seized or windings burned?
The motor isn't dead. It's just running so slowly it won't vibrate the tumbler enough to clean the brass. Now that you mention it I might just take it apart and see if the brushes are bad or clean up the rotor or whatever I find... Thanks guys.

Ooops, I missed that.

If you are happy with the Cabela's (Berry's) tumbler, maybe you could get a price for a replacement motor from Berry's MFG?

They are comparably sized/capacity tumblers, perhaps Berry's motor can work in Dillon's unit? ;)

I doubt it has brushes.

It will either has bronze bushings or ball bearing, depending on size and quality.

The bronze bushing work until they run out of oil. There will be some sort of packing holding oil against them. If this happens they will get slow. A cleanup and re-oil of the bearing/packing might bring it back to life, but generally it is too late when it shows symptoms.

If it has ball bearings they can be purchased fairly cheaply on line and are easy enough to change out. If the housing that holds the bearing isn't wallowed out you'll be good to go. If it is, there are tricks to overcome it if it isn't too bad.

The Berrys tumbler has bearings. I actually have a set of them out in the shed. I bought two sets when I replaced mine. Shipping was more than the cost of one set, so might as well buy two sets. May never need them. I got a bad bearing from the factory. Berrys offered to replace the tumbler, but Ijust fixed it myself. It has been going strong for a long time now.
