I have been looking around and have been hesitant to buy an upper for PSA because they arent complete and dont seem like as good a deal when you add everything up.

Where would i be able to get an affordable upper for my ar?

I just got all my parts for the lower last night. 45 minutes and 2 youtube videos later and it was completely assembled. MUCH easier than i thought!

Pics later on today.

You can find them cheaper than PSA, but not with chrome lined barrels, 1/7 twist, mid length gas, M4 feed ramps, and High Pressure Tested and Magnetic Particle Inspected. The main downside to PSA is that they sometimes take quite a while to ship. My last order took a month and a half to get to me. But if you want cheaper and lower quality, look at r-guns.com and those on sale at midwayusa.com.

Another drawback is that it seems like Bolt Carrier Groups are very very hard to find right now, with every place I have searched online (About 10) showing out of stock.

Just my .02,

Given the deals right now, I would say they are still a very good deal when you add them up. Buying off of their website right now and budgeting for a $160 BMC bolt carrier group, you can put together a 16" carbine for just over $600. How is that not a good deal. A PSA carbine upper for $250 is a good deal, even without a BCG or charging handle. I actually prefer them without those components so I can simply buy a BCM BCG and a gunfighter charging handle. If you want the PSA stuff, which isn't bad, jsut add $16 for a charging handle and 140 for a BCG. $400 is a good deal for an upper like that. I highly doubt you will find something that is as good for less.

BCM seems to have fluctuated in and out of stock over the last little while. Simply sign up for an email alert and get one when they come back in. If you need the gun tomorrow that wont work, but neither will ordering from PSA to begin with.

I bought a complete NIB Colt 6920 upper, including bolt carrier and carry handle for $700 delivered a few days after the election

What length barrel? BCM has some complete uppers in stock but without knowing barrel length I can't say if they have what you'd want.

I agree with Girodin, I doubt you will find an upper as good as PSA for their excellent prices. I went with a $270 PSA midlength upper and added a BCM BCG. It compares very well with my BCM and Daniel Defense uppers. I'm impressed with what you get for the money. Other components I've gotten from PSA also are high quality such as their $40 receiver extension kit.

Sadly PSA and everyone else has no BCG's! Like LeonCarr mentions.

Just in July, I bought a middy heavy 16" barrel upper with magpul hand guard for $309, the BCG was $140, the charging handle was $16, and the lower (also with magpul grip and stock) was $300.

To me that's a pretty awesome AR for $765. If you don't like the magpul stuff, (at the time) the upper would have been $289 and the lower $239. So you could have built one for under $700. But prices are only going UP lately. I wouldn't hesitate to buy a PSA upper now and wait to find a deal on a BCG and lower, wherever/whenever they become available.

BCGs have come in and out of stock a number of times, at a number of places, over the last month or two. Just sign up for email alerts at a few places and get one when they come in. If you need a complete rifle tomorrow, then either buy a complete rifle, or pay $40-50 more and buy one of the fail zero carriers that are in stock various places.

As to prices going up. You can get a PSA patrol rifle package right now starting at $999. The aimpoint that comes with it is a $400 optic. That gives you a pretty solid AR for $600. One could sale off the aimpoint and have a really good deal on a rifle (or just keep it and have a solid rifle with a great optic).

Furthermore, if you bought everything to assemble an AR (barreled Upper, stripped lower and kit) from PSA right now you could put one together for less than $700 even if you bought a $200 fail zero BCG.

+1 on PSA. Good deals for high quality uppers and rifles. Recently I bought a midlength AR that had a MI rail with magpul flip ups, stock, grip and pmag for $799. The light weight MI handguard was nice.

I have put together a number of their rifles and have not been disappointed. They just take a long time to ship and charge you up front!

Unless there is some reason you'd rather not deal with PSA, I'd just cruise their website frequently and see if what you want is in stock. BCG's are in high demand, order one when you see it's in stock. I probably wouldn't hold out for "best price" when availability has become the biggest issue.

Uppers

I have found that joebobs in hays ks have a lot of things in stock. Very good prices maybe they can help you out with what you need.

My mid length PSA premium dissipator upper with magpul furniture is coming in tomorrow (after a 22 day wait). Hammer forged, chrome lined HP/MPT barrel, m16 HP/MPT bolt carrier group and a forged mil spec charging handle. Its going on a LMT lower with a RRA 2 stage trigger, doublestar lower parts kit and a MAGS EFX A1 stock with the rifle length buffer. I looked everywhere before I bought from PSA - and I mean EVERYWHERE - I couldn't beat the specs for the price... and I bought 10 20 round Pmags to boot. I will do a review when it comes in and I can get to the range this weekend. I have my fingers crossed that all is as promised and if so, I think PSA and my credit card are (to the chagrin of my wife) going to be best friends.

PSA prices are good. They are made to order so you will have a wait, but you may best be happy to find a good value on uppers at all. In the past when I couldn't get a BMC M16 bolt carrier assembly, or any other anywhere else for a decent price, I was able to get one at DPMS (www.dpmsinc.com). They have good stuff and are great to deal with.
